Sony A55 .. Dpreview Gold award!!!!

Remember that 30% of the light is reflected off the pellicle mirror to the AF module. Only 70% will pass through the mirror and reach the sensor. This is the same problem that my EOS RT faces. 30% approx equal to one third stop loss in light reaching the sensor.

Err... That means a lens in F2.8 is now F4 or just the amount of light being used by the sensor is 70% of the total light captured by the lens?

...

But modern sensors outperform the ISO limitations of the old film I used to put in my RT so this limitation is not as bad as before (I think).

Bingo! ;)

Of course it can use screw focus lenses... All a-mount cameras can. :)

Was concerned Sony would go the way of C&N, removing the screw motors to increase sales of their motor lenses.
That would render my Minolta lenses manual.

But Sony has made the right decision to keep the motor, bravo!

Seems to go with their philosophy of backward compatibilities as in Playstations. Very nice.

I agreed. This should make those who have substantial investment into old Minolta lenses happy.

When NEX E-mount bear the Alpha logo, I read from another forum, many existing users worry E-mount is going to be the Sony Alpha camera for the future. This should put many to less worry now. :D

The lens has not changed. It will still have the Bokeh and Depth of Field of whatever aperture is stated on the lens.

Only light reaching sensor reduced. (Not sure on this one, the DPreview shows the mirror flipping up....), so might be light reduced only for Video, not Stills, have to confirm

Need to test out the real thing.

Aiyoo, read carefully. The pellicle mirror only flips up for cleaning.

Ok, here's another reason why the existence of A560/580....for us to choose which to go for...

somehow im not very impressed. maybe its because of the EVF. i would rather a OVF instead of a EVF. i still think DSLRs can never be replaced haha... though this is indeed an impressive piece of technology that would change the camera business quite a bit.

also they did not mention battery life! would it have a shorter battery life considering that it uses the NEX batteries?

Hope to see more people switch to Alpha :)

Seems likely to have shorter battery life.

1. They did state the EVF was excellent.

2. Don't like EVF? There's the A580 for you too.

3. Yes, they have an entire section on battery life. Please read again. And yes, the battery life is 200-250 shots, due to the smaller NEX batteries.

Hmm... I believe, Sony main objective is to capture new users. Switching system is very costly, unless the person does not have substantial investment.

Don't hold your breath to think other camera manufacturers are sitting idle with their R&D. ;)

Definitely bro. Pentax is coming out with K-5 and Kr and Olympus may be launching a E5 soon.

The funny thing is that the battery will deplete faster when you use the EVF rather than the LCD. haha... Anyway, even though this looks promising, but the battery life is just so-so... :(

Your 1st post here just to make this comment ah? :bsmilie:

Agree. That is one downside now. Hopefully there would be a higher cap. battery for the cam.

Considering the small dimensions...

VG, here we come!

I'm a Nikon user all the way from their old manual film cameras, to their current digital lineups and I must say that the A55 and A33 look to be as compelling a purchase for a begineer than the usual suspects from Canon and Nikon. I'll definately give the A33/55 a try at the shops, it may go into my usual recommend list when people ask for advice on DSLRs. The build quality must be better than the earlier A series though, which I felt was too plastic feeling.

Found the Sony advert on the A33/55 on alpha rumours, I must say its the coolest looking camera advert in a while hehe.. like some high tech action film with all the electronic meters/gauges http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6Kte597Drk&feature=player_embedded#!

Agree bro. You getting one?

I skipped the NEX because I already have an A550. Now I'm looking at this to upgrade my A550.

But the NEX is still darn tempting to use with old Leica lenses...
