Sony A33

Hi, just curious, is there vertical grip for A33?

I checked Sony's website and google-d, apparently there isn't any and there were people complaining about the lack of vertical grip for A33 from Sony and third-party.

If you look at design of the rotating LCD on the a33, having a vertical grip may restrict the rotation of the LCD.

Generally, Sony does NOT create a VG for it's budget cameras. They do so to help distinguish their semi-pro and pro models.

I really wish some third party manufacturers come out with a vg. I rather want a vg then the rotating screen. The battery just run out of juice too fast...

Of course, why wouldn't it?

I see, SonyKMMount able to use it on all Sony dslr camera.

I see, SonyKMMount able to use it on all Sony dslr camera.

why wouldn't they not be able to work on Sony Alpha DSLRs?

you mentioned SonyKMMount...

if you know about KM Mount, then you should know that Minolta lenses work on Sony Alpha bodies... therefore it just makes sense, that Tamron lenses for SonyKMMount will work on Alpha systems..

unless u're talking about another SonyKMMount that no one's heard of before.

hi. i will be getting sony a33

should i purchase the camera with the kit lens or buy the body alone?

is it wise for me to play with the kit lens and determine my shooting style or jump start by purchasing better lens?

Hi,

Anybody know how to view the shutter count on the A33?

advisable.. yup.. unless there's a good offer on the Sony lenses then you should get another lens too.

Hi,

Anybody know how to view the shutter count on the A33?

hmm viewing the file number's one way... but if you use functions like Multi-frame NR and HDR, you'll be off count.

i am thinking of getting a33, upgrade from a330. my parents are asking me to switch to cannon (probably 550d) since its a couple of hundred more. they obviously like the cannon brand.

and why do you/they think 550d is a better choice?

branding issue and higher resale value. should i go with a33? i really like the sweep panaroma function.

Branding issue? not to be sarcastic but how much is branding worth really? is it worthed that couple of hundred bucks? that couple hundred of bucks can buy you another lens!

not trying to sound like a sony fanboy but can 550d do 7fps? can it AF in video? can its LCD rotate allowing you to shoot from various difficult angles (can it even flip out in the first place..)

And as you've mentioned, you already have an a330, and if you have existing minolta/sony equipment, what are you going to do with them when you upgrade? sell? is it worthed it? Are canon lenses really better (at least the ones that you will be using in the next few years). And as you may already know, on average, sony lenses are cheaper than canon's and most are on par and some are sharper than canon's (e.g. Sony 50mm F1.8).

These are things you have to decide on your own, lest you regret later in a few years' time...

*P/S: resale value? have you been looking at the BnS prices? have you seen how much 550d depreciates and how much A33 depreciates?

no problem. hope i didn't sound too harsh. =) hope to see you around at the outings from the "other" forum =)

Think very very carefully... Canons do NOT have higher resale value. They drop just as much as all other brands.

Also, if you've used an A330, do you like sony's Live view? Do you like the fast AF in live view? Do you like the anti-shake with any lens you attach? Do you like the articulating screen? If yes, guess what.... You won't get these with a 550D.

"Branding" is the WORST reason of all. When people see your pictures, do you really think they can see that it was taken with a canon vs a nikon vs a pentax ve. a sony?

Buy the DSLR that meets your needs, not your parent's branding insecurities.

yea. i am GOING to get a33! problem is where. From the forums, roughly about 800-850 with kit lens (which i do not need). or at the shops? should be little more expensive, but might be able to bargain for some goodies? any opinions or suggestions for those who have made their purchase?

thanks!
