Sony A33

whats the difference between EVF and LV Chk?
been using my a500 LV mode for 98% of my shots and it has a LV Chk which you can zoom in your subject to make sure that its focus, is it same with EVF?

In A550 LV CHK, u need to switch to LV and view from LCD. For the A33/55 u need to set up the delete button as a Focus Magnifier button once. Simply press the Delete button to magnify from EVF or Main LCD in record mode.

"If enabled, the Delete button can be used to initiate a focus magnifier function in Record mode. The first press brings up a crop box that can be positioned anywhere in the frame with the four-way controller. The second press switches to a 7x zoom, the third press to a 14x zoom, and the fourth press returns to an unzoomed view."

I like this feature the most as we all know some lenses have back or front focus issues. Easily can double confirm the focus by pressing the Delete button 3 times to 14x Mag and adjust focus ring on lens until I happy.

On my A700, even with an add-on diopter attachment, with my less than 20/20 vision, it's a hit and miss thing sometimes, dare not MF 95% of the time.

This feature, IMHO, is much better than the A850/900 micro-adjust feature becoz it doesn't matter whether I use a Sony or 3rd party lens.

Should be in all future Sony cameras that feature Live-view/ EVF function.

Any A33 owners care to try and give us a short comment?

Much appreciated .

I dun think the cleaning process is very much different to normal dslr when you have dust on sensor. Blow...if still cannot refer to ssc.

Then does the dust on the mirror affect the photo output? Can a swab be done on the mirror, like what we do for the sensor?

Depending how big is the dust. Its just like cleaning ur uv filter in front of your lenses. This mirror somehow is like a piece of glass in front of the sensor so swab should be fine.

But i hv seen some forums mentioned that fingerprints will actually destroy it and need for replacement by sony. So keep those itchy fingers away.

I went to try out the cam in Sony store, the view finder reminds me of some aeroplane flight simulator :bsmilie::bsmilie:

This is the best feature of the A33/A55 IMO. Can U even imagine how useful it is when u do portrait shots? U can zoom in on the eyes to make sure that they are super sharp. Macro photography as well, U can zoom in and see exactly which part of the insect is in focus. And those who love to use manual focus lenses will thank Sony for implementing this feature into their DSLT.

The ability to micro focus until tact sharpness is more important than anything.

Using this feature with a Tamron 180mm for macro or 70-400mm G Birding will be very useful.

I'm set to get one, provided Sony don't have anything new to announce by year end. Until then, I will visit and play some more with this DSLT cam at Sony shops. ;p

Sorry using to thread,

any brother/sister here know about the A55? is it coming to singapore?

Thanks

Of course it is, but most likely only released end september.

My feedback for A33 after a few hours shoot with it.
The IQ of the EVF during composition is not as good as the after shot review
the aftershot review is noticeably sharper. Translucent issue?

Any owners knows how to turn off review in EVF but have it on the LCD.
ie, if i want to cont shooting, i won't get review on EVF. But if I want to look at the review, the
LCD will show?

In-box accessories brochure don't have Battery Grip for a33/55.

I may have to just buy an extra battery than a battery grip as any grip will interfere with the rotating LCD.

Got to manually lift up the mirror.
Extracted from manual.
Do not use a cleaning solution containing organic solvents, such as
thinner, or benzine.
• When cleaning the lens surface, remove dust using a commercially
available blower. In case of dust that sticks to the surface, wipe it off with
a soft cloth or tissue paper slightly moistened with lens cleaning solution.
Wipe in a spiral pattern from the center to the outside. Do not spray lens
cleaning solution directly onto the lens surface.
Sensors
Do not touch the image sensor with the
tip of the blower and do not put the tip
of a blower into the cavity beyond the
mount.
• Hold the camera’s face downward to
prevent the dust from resettling in the
camera. Complete the cleaning quickly.
• Also clean the back of the mirror using
a blower.

Hi, Thanks for posting ISO effects for night photos. FF with 12MP has high ISO useful for
night shots handheld.

Ahh... Can translate to english please? Are you now comparing the affordable A33 to the Nikon D700/D3/D3S? Why are you even mentioning this here? (i.e., this can be considered trolling)

Actually the ISO12,800 shot is good even at 8R sizes... you will only notice that the picture isn't very sharp if you scrutinize it carefully... otherwise for most people, it will do... it is definitely usable... the ISO3200 shot will go up to A3 prints without much problem.

Bought a33 at Cathay this afternoon. So far so good.

yeah, agreed..... if u nt gonna crop the pic... u reali wont see it as so bad.

I am using Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 (@f3.5) and HVL-F42AM Flash, tested some shots... ..to be honest the high at ISO1600 (SS at 1/60sec) already served my purpose for night & indoor shot, noise level is well controlled.......at least it is better than my old N system....D80 & D90. :)

If ppl pixels peep every photos, next time ISO12,800,000 also not good enough one! :sweatsm:
