Yup a bro from alphad$lr already kenna this warning.

I think all dslr with videos have this limitation due to the bigger sensor having more heat when used continuously.

But seriously, unless shooting a concert or show, then use a dedicated videocam.

If some candid or kids videos, i think anything more than 1 min tends to bored the audience already.

Thanks azurelite, it certainly looks like that Sony 16gb MS duo card in the comex poster

I can check for you later as I also kenna the damn BBB Virus.
Bought the A33 already. In the bag, but working so can't take out to see. But it is the reddish color card

My initial thoughts.
The demo set i tested was having problem.
Not so clear EVF, After taking a shot, it took more than 1s to render in preview (no memory card).

Luckily, the actual retail set preview rendering is super fast, EVF looks a lot better.
Now, i wonder how can a 2 day old demo set spoil or wonder if this is a pre-production piece they used.
But it did give me a very negative impression

I can't say much now as I simply had 30mins to play with it before i buy. it's back to work for me

Comments are based on these 30 mins

As an OVF user, the EVF does need getting use to. Period.
The EVF rainbow thingy will be apparent in used especially when you move fairly quickly to compose a shot/panning.What is good is really no lag when panning.

Color rendered in EVF is a bit off than thru a OVF.

While it boast high res, it can be improved.
Since I am an amatuer, the info that can be displayed in EVF is very useful and thus my plunge into a EVF cam.

Personally, EVF has to improved to gain more acceptance.

Grip is a bit small. even for my small/mid hands.

I prefer more choices of ISO control. A33 ISO control is quite standard (100,200,400,800,1600,3200,6400,12800), maybe I have not fully explore it yet...wonder if the range can be expanded?

Personally still prefer OVF. :)

Nothing much I can do with kit lens, picking up few new lenses this weekend. :)

Thought u initially wanted a55? Wat makes u switched to a580? Becos after playing with a33? ;)

Tell us ur thoughts on a33.

To me i find its high iso800 and above is noisier than nex5, probably hecos i think a33 iso800 is equivalent to iso1600 of nex5 due to the camera compensating for the light loss.

not sure abt a560/580 but for a500/550, the iso settings are also standard. Only a700 can select on 1/3 stops.

But i find a33/55 is great for family outings, holidays and kids school events. Can take nice photos and videos and yet not mistaken as the event photographer.

anyone tried any third party batteries yet?

If you're taking video... 10sec for each clip is plenty long... trust me I've been getting students to take videos of school trips and usually 10-20sec clips are good enough and then you usually would want to string them together for a final video montage and that's where if you take more than 30 sec per clip you're going to be bogged down by a serious amount of editing, which you will hate and then leave the video clips alone and then you never get to watch them...

Test Shots, I felt ISO good until ISO3200. ISO 6400 usable for smaller print. :)

Using Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 at 10mm f4.0.

seems that the noise increase drastically after iso 400. i think the a55 will be better since it has a so called newer and better sensor

For me , I think the above uncropped pics are acceptable at ISO 6400 but for cropped pics, the noise and smudging gets real bad at ISO 3200 onwards. Hope A55 is better at noise control else I just get A33 if both are the same :)

imaging resource review shows that a33 and a55 have very similar noise characteristics, same as the NEX

Nope. A55 has similar noise level to nex if u really looked hard enough, esp on the picture with that lady model. For a33, the noise level is quite noticeable from iso1600 and obvious at iso3200.

I also find my nex5 does better at higher iso compared to my a33. But for the same iso, a33 tends to hv at least 1/3 or 1/2 stops higher shutter speed. If based on sony having tweaked it to compensate the 1/3 light loss, than maybe the actual iso level of a33 is always higher than what it actually shows.

I try post a few comparisons shortly to have a better view.

Oh no... I notice some noise creeping in at ISO800 (almost like my GF1.... which I'm trying to upgrade..)

Looks like I cannot write off Canon 550D or Pentax K-R yet...

I don't expect zero noise and I dunno is it realistic to expect no noise at high iso. The Question is , is it considered noise tolerable or not.

Nvr really studied the noise profile of the a33 but since it uses the nex sensors predominantly it should perform the same as my nex

If so I m happy le

A camera is always a camera only,it is just to take pictures.;)
