Congrats bro, now I have a partner shooting with the same fav setup. Here is a shot I just DO. Taken in Bangladesh. M3, amedeo, contax CZ sonnar 50/1.5, zeiss orange filter, either @ F4 (I think). Tri-X 400, diafine. No other editing done, straight for scan using epson v700.

I am thinking of buying the Zeiss c-sonnar 50mm, but I've been reading about the issues with focus shift. Is this a major problem in real world use? I will use it exclusively on a film camera, not digital.

Or is it a better idea to get one of the LTM lenses above?

LTM alot cheaper.

The focus shift is only if you pixel peep using digital m.

Film not obvious.

go with a newer lens...older ones may have a shorter shelf life :) though having said that, i will probably be using my wwii czj sonnar for a long time.

Thanks for the responses.

Do you need to get the c-sonnar tuned for f/1.5 (whatever that means?). Or no need to worry about it?

Also, for those of you who have both, how do the sizes compare between the Nikkor LTM and the C-Sonnar?

I believe all ZM C Sonnar are factory-default optimized at f2.8. Zeiss accept free optimization to f1.5 if you send it to them.
Unless you managed to find a ZM C Sonnar S-mount version and use it with a Contax-Leica adapter. This lens is optimized at f1.5 and has a story. It is supposed to be meant for Nikon mount but factory messed it up and ended up as a Contax mount lens. The lens is rather limited in numbers too.
I reckon both old and new Zeiss Sonnar lens gives the same look but the latter being a bit sharper.

Good luck!

It's not a rangefinder, but my Rollei 35S has a Sonnar lens. Does it count?
