Anyone know how to get license for songs to use in the wedding videos?

Or where to get songs which dont need license so that will not get fined.

Other than own self compose.. what else/??

THANKS a million.

By law, if you receive payment for that video, you have to pay copyright for the songs inside. To get it, you have to approach the song's record label representative in S'pore.

... but almost no one care about this ;p

MDA has charged people who violates IP law.

Read some of this links for more info:

It is suggested that even Utube stuff could be in violation. so like PCK says "DON"T PLAY PLAY EH"

A royalthy paid music CD only cost about $100 for about 10 tracks but you can use it for a lifetime.

Some are paid as you use in 30 secs block. Try Big Bang Fuzz at Tg Pagar, there's also a couple of other music library available.

Adobe and Sony has some software to help with that but can cost a hole in your pocket.

$100 for a musix CD? can share the website name? Tks

hOW ABOUT IF WE REMIX THE MUSIC ? ? ? THINK THAT NO MORE COPYRIGHT .....;p

Copyrights belongs to the publisher of the song / music.
That means even if you play them yourself and use it for commercial purpose, you are voilating the IP laws.
That's why Basking needs to be apporved and license by the National Arts Council or else it is illegal.

By law, it does not matter whether or not you receive payment.

Can you point me to the specific areas in those three links which tells you that "MDA has charged people for who violates (sic) IP law"?

A far as I know, MDA does not initiate any such proceedings, whether or civil. Civil proceedings are initiated by the rights holders themselves, and criminal proceedings (which I assume you mean since you use the word "charged"), are initiated by the Attorney General.

If something has changed, do let us know.

there r mechanical rights for reproduction of music. Broadcast rights may belong to different parties too. So even if it is royalty free music, read the T&C carefully!

I am happy to see that there are people who are starting to appreciate the nuances of copyright (and other IP) laws.

Yes, reproduction rights and broadcasting rights are indeed separate aspects of copyright creatures and hence, one needs to look carefully at the license terms.

That said, I'm not really sure that broadcasting rights are really required for the usual wedding video. I'll reckon most are not really broadcasted.

I think MDA do not take legal actions against offenders, just as an advisory I think. It's the publishing firms / recording companies / agencies representing the artistes that actually does the legal stuff.

Anyway, the reason that no legal proceedings has been taken against wedding videos has been the fact that it's still too small a market. Just wait till one of these bigger wedding studio gets nab then everyone will wise up.

LOL

I've heard from engr that some videographers have been caught and fined for $8000 leh..

Well, ur supposed to. Business model must be feasible.

Anyway, as long as it been advised to the couple, the owners is on them not the cameraman or editors.

After all they are the exec producer since they pay for the production. LOL

There is something called abetment.

Abetment is only relevant if there is a criminal offence.

As long as the video is made by someone, this person is responsible for it, regardless if the couple asked you to do it.

They will be responsible for different liabilities. The person making it is not the ONLY person responsible.

The videographer will still have liability. I remember there was something about it in a law module i took.
