Yes, blue ring as elusive as any marine creature ... hoping to see one in Sipadan house reef next week .. keke

Sipadan house reef? Is it Kapalai house reef or Paradise at Mabul you're referring to??

Mmm..... Mandarin Fish or Blue-Ring..... Mmmm....

I would choice Blue-Ring ;)

We saw one blue-ring at mabul last august we went sipadan. But be careful, it has enough venom to kill probably all the divers on your boat!

Yalor, to this date we are still chiding our buddy for not trying hard enough to inform us of her find ...

True true, though chances slimmer then being sole first prize winner in toto

Hahaha.... a friend of mine didn't know what a Blue-Ring was... and tried to 'probed' it with a steel pointer.... all while I was trying to take a few very close shot !! My 1st thought was that if the Blue-Ring bites... the 1st target would be me  Luckily I grab his hand before the pointer touches the Blue-Ring.... I have to give him the 'DEATH' sign by pulling my finger across my throat. :bsmilie:

But honestly.... Blue-Ring are very safe to be around with, as long as NOT handled or blocked when its moving.

James i envy you man...

Yikes, good reaction! Glad you can laugh about it.

this is why we shouldnt dive with pointers...seriously. if everyone had no pointers, they would be a lot more reluctant to touch something with their fingers.

Aiyo, but i find pointers very useful sometimes .... :embrass:

for moving stuff, poking stuff, and avoiding contact with the reef usually

the only time i take it off my BC is usually to:

1) fight triggerfish
2) use it as a modified reef hook
3) stabilise my shooting position in awkward positions

:bsmilie:

Most times , act like a monopod .... :) especially on sandy bottom and with a bit of current ... :embrass:
Notably when I was at Lembeh Straits 1.5 yrs ago

One more thing .... as a tank banger keke

Wow, I like your shots of the blue-ring, spider crab & the squid. Very nice!
Have been thinking abt Sogod for a couple of years now, the journey has put me off BUT your photos triggered my interest again - hmph maybe next year...

Regarding pointer.... I find them most useful.... not to poke things with, but using it to avoid touching any corals or reef. Find a stoney spot, use the pointer on it, and push myself away. Also good for archoring myself to loose sandy dive site during fast current.... Lembeh would be a good example. :bsmilie:

But of course.... to use or not to use.... is up to you.

yup but it damages the coral when you do that. i've seen divers try adn push themself off and made a huge piece of staghorn fall off.

if no pointers were allowed and they had to use their fingers, they would have a lot more incentive to improve their buoyancy after getting their fingers cut by broken coral and stung by hydroids

i just call it a walking stick
