So long away from this forum, so who still shoots Film?

To add to the statistic of film shooters, I am coming back to film again. But I will still shoot digital though

In the past I used to shoot film. My grandpa gave me his DEHEL, my first encounter with a real camera in my childhood days, which fired my passion of film photography. Last year I bought my first DSLR (Canon EOS 1000D) and had been shooting ever since for few months till now. I love the convenience and instant feedback and also the image quality that the camera gives me. But somehow I just felt something is missing in digital photography. Zen stuffs I guess. Its like too-good-to-be-true kinda feeling :embrass:

Recently I have heard someone just coming into DSLR commenting on one of the film photo are not "sharp". For me, who cares if this shot is not 101% tact sharp. I don't mechanically follow the ten commandments of photography. I guess I got some old school in me somehow

i still shoot a lot of film, and develop it all - b&w, colour negatives, colour slides, xpro. 35mm & MF
i shoot more digital now but it's a good percentage.

The measure of a good photograph is not sharpness, it about mood and feel that the photographer's able to capture and the story he trying to convey. Personally I hate comments like 'nice bokeh!' or 'nice! very sharp!'. World Press Photography photos are never pin sharp (grain and all that) but they touch me in a way words failed to express. Depends on the kind of photography you're doing I guess, but honestly, 'nice bokeh!' and 'nice! very sharp!' shots are no brainers. They are the easiest to achieve. Tons of 'nice bokeh!' and 'nice! very sharp!' shots out there by Toms, Dicks and Harrys.

digital slr, for now at least, cannot beat film in certain aspects for sure...

i did thought of going to film... but i know nothing... and not to mention the cost...

and if i am not wrong, one should learn to print one's work to bring out the magic... like what Ansel Adams do.. sending to a lab won't help i think... pls correct me if i am wrong...

Cost? my camera follow me for the past 35 years, I have only a few lens, film cost 4-12 dollars a rolls (bw to slide) I take about 2 to 3 rolls month, bw paper cost 1.5-3 per sheet from 8x10 to 11x14.

I spent 40 to 180 for a month, average about 1500 per year. I have friends build up his 135 DSLR cost 3 times more than my hassy. 2 years later he need to upgrade/service and still upgrading now with latest software and hardware. That is my 10 years budget spent in film.

I have been with film SLR since 1964 and still shoot regularly with my complete OM system.
Nothing beats film solely because if it's a good photo, the photographer skills will be acknowledged more so than one's ability in digital post processing. Also, I don't like the look of a scanned image of film as it doesn't display the feel and look of film. Viewing film images from prints at art gallery is so different thant viewing them on the web. I took sometime to get into DSLR and finally did it when I found an old Canon EOS 5D that could produce film like images with my old OM lenses. I do miss the assortment of films of yesteryears and the better processing facilities we used to have though.

It is heartening to know we still have a group of film enthusiasts around in clubsnap. Nowadays, I see so many people toting digital SLRs around their necks and I get curious looks from them when they see me using film SLRs, TLRs and rangefinders.

Films..... for the memories.... it is much more fun than digital.... steeper learning curve.... and expensive.... ;p

Recently inherited my dad's F2AS... having plenty of fun using different lenses to compose different shots. Glad to have some analogue action after years of digital comfort, driving me to hone the skills i picked up from digital.

i still use minolta x-300 once in a very blue moon. i find it very ex compared to my canon. yet i lack the suspense and the need to make each shot count on my canon thanks to lcd

I wanted to get a semi-pro body instead of a basic one..... not so keen on used... but no option now.... My 300X do not have spot metering.

ahha mine also no longer produced. back then the only worries were lenses. there wasnt such a thing called who got a better sensor with less noise;p everyone could use the same film!:bsmilie:

Have not shot film for a while... and have a few roll waiting for me to shoot.....
