One main reason why we bought the F15s is that it's battle proven..... means tested and works in combat situations.

New systems doesnt mean realiability and non realiability in this instance means death....

It is undeniable that Singapore constantly needs to maintain its defence preparedness by continually enhance the military capabilities. One primary way is through purchasing technology. Not happy with it? The other way is to recruit full time specialists, but we don't have that many willing Singaporeans who will step up to serve. So you can play your role by stepping forward to serve the country. We need talents such as you, which will lower the dependency on defence technology. Defence is a need, not a want. Technology and manpower are the fundamental ingredients. We lack one, we pay for the other.

Having said that, we are not at the best of our economic shape right now. We also "seem" to be enjoying a rather cordial diplomatic relationship all round, relatively speaking, as compared to some other times. The choice to allocate the funds at this time to defence is a reason why people are upset I suppose.

Erm.... wad u want den? F117A Stealth Fighters? Apache w/Longbow Radar? B-2 Stealth Bombers? ICBM launch sites with nuclear tipped ballistic missiles? F22 Raptor? F14 Tomcat w/AIM-54 Phonex BVR missiles? Harrier Jumpjets? Or how abt the latest Auroua Stealth Recon Jets?

- Apaches (without Longbow Radar)
- F16C/D Air-superiority fighter/interceptor
- F15SG Air-superiority fighter/bomber/multi-role

Some of the many Singaporeans are really skeptical over this purchases; I was at a coffeeshop just hours before for my dinner and heard this bunch of students conversing over this purchase. First they touched on the issue that these jet planes are a waste of money, second the waste of time to train pilots for this new system then they touched on the issue of chosing Boeing over Dassault.

I am not really taught in military aviation, but I believed what the government did was done outright to safeguard this nation.

U got me cracking with the uniformed coffeeshop talk thing.

Wad would kiddos know about fighter planes other den reading, memorising & vomitting facts from Janes Defense Guide?

Training is definitely needed even if we are to build our own fighter planes or even mechas in our own country. Waste of money? Den perhaps they could suggest better methods on how to use our defense budget?

Our Apaches come with Longbow. This is confirmed.

A4SUs are being sold to a nearby country. Some are going for display.

M1A2 for Singapore = Sure die... That thing was designed for deserts and large open spaces. Singapore's way too small, forested and muddy for it.

E-2C replacement in the pipeline somewhere, hopefully can get the E-3 AWACS. But I would also like to see the KC-135 replaced by the KC-10... :bsmilie:
