y make so difficult, if u can, contact him, else ignore, there is a lot of things better you can do :):)

We smile, and you shoot. Maybe a 10 minute or so job. Probably we can take about 30 shots (full/half portrait) on my SD Card using your camera and I will go home and blow up the pictures up on my computer to select the best one to send to the printer.
My DSLR cannot accept SD card.
PnS using XD card...

I don't think anyone is making things diff. Just that lately CS HAVE become a place to look for cheap or free photographer.

I'm not worried about "spoil market/undercutting" I think it can't be stop nor am I bothered by it. These adr not my targeted clients. But it does bring down the image of photographers in general. Once people get the idea that photography can be had for a song or at chicken feed price, people will start to look at photographers as just someone they can boss around or take for a ride.

FYI in my opinion,

An outdoor shoot of this nature can cost $250.00 upwards ( for 1 shot ).

Most prospective client will not be interested in portfolio with leaflet of this nature where your image may be less than 1/4 of the leaflet, a portfolio have to be better than this ( if a newbie can do this, why should clients be impressed by it )

There are tons of good portfolio floating around.

If you were to charge low for 1 shoot, you'll have to charge low for referal as well.

If I can spend $2K for a shoot, I'll not be interested in a photographer who charge chicken feed. To pay $2K to a photographer who actually charge chicken feed will make me look stupid. Why pay $2K to you when I can get a full time pro ( Wee Kim, Alan Lee, etc ) for $2K.

At the end of the day, charge what you think you're worth, it can be $2K or just $20.00. It is your choice but know what you're getting into and bear in mind, if you charge $2K, you'll be known as the $2K expensive photographer, charge $20.00 and you'll be known as the $20.00 cheap cameraman.

Cheers and happy shooting

i hope that your shoot goes well and you get the shots that you want.
But please note that your description above "we smile you shoot. Maybe a 10 minute or so job." is way too simply.
It take more than a monkey pressing the shutter at the right time to get a good shot.
If it is just a "simple pictures" that you are looking for then all is well.

I hope you reward the "person pressing the shutter" well.
after all he did save you quite a bit of money. :)

i think the part 10mins job of what people think is wrong. actual fact it takes much more than mere 10mins for a photog to make sure the shot works real good. maybe TS has hurt some photogs by stating that it's a 10mins job.

my 2cents worth.

if TS has found his photogs maybe he can closed this thread.

mrproperty?

can i blantly assume that you are into property?
or aka as property agent?

I have seen those nicely taken photos of property agents on flyers and namecards all over my void deck...
those are professionaly taken, and sure make many ordinary faces look like superstars..

mrproperty, please!!!!...since these photos will appear on flyers and namecards and you
and your coleagues will probably attract more "attention" and hopefully business with your pretty faces..
why dont you just spend that $100 to do a photoshoot at those makeover studio?

simple as that..
you have the intention to have nicely taken photos to generate more attention and business..
why do you think people here should take for you free?
our equipments aint free and certainly dont come cheap..

for our portfolio??
com'on....dont joke..i think my grandmother will make a better subject and she will surely
give me an angbao after the shoot.

Just cant understand why are people coming here to exploit photographers on the
pretext of helping our portfolio..

Introduce more business to the photographers next time?
I heard this a thousand times....and I have also said these words..many times in bangkok.
always tell the shopkeeper.."charge me cheap lah...100thb...i bring my friends here tomorrow"..
If you are really a property agent, can u source a house for me free?
dont worry....you wont lose out pal.....i will introduce more friends to you in the future..
sounds fair to you?

You make it sound like you have experience in photography. You also make it sound simple. Here's an idea, do it yourself, its free and should be no problem because its so simple, hey, it will only take you 10 mins!

Oh, and just before I get the sarcastic comment about 'how am I supposed to shoot myself' use a tripod and use a timer setting!

Yeah do this and plus one.

TS should just get a DSLR + prime portrait lens + tripod for investment. He can shoot himself for free and after that provide this service to his colleagues. Well, who knows, he might earn some decent fees as a freelance photographer, get to build an entire portfolio of agent portraits, and even get free lunches (every cent counts) ... what a wonderful solution.

Yup, it is indeed a wonderful solution, thanks for adding the freelance bit and the portfolio bit, i left that out of my wonderful solution.

what do you mean by "one day"? do you mean to say that today we have no photographer worthy to be ranked amongst the top photographers?
Just curious, which photographer in CS do you rank amongst the top photographers in the world, if you wish to take offence? Can ANYONE in CS name ANYONE from CS who is ranked amongst the top in the world?

Everytime somebody asked for service of photographers in this forum, and with low budget, someone is sure to start passing sarcastic remarks. I dun understand leh. What is wrong for somebody with lower budget to ask for a service from a photographer who expects less payment ? It's a free market, you accept the terms, do it. If you don't accept, then ignore.

It's like trying to "pyscho" people to charge a high enough rate so that this market is protected (ie. not spoiling the market). Photography is mainly a service. The price is fully dependent on how much is the photographer's expected income. You may expect to earn $6k/mth as a photographer while he expects only $3k. So he charges less lah....nothing wrong.

And this forum being so popular with photographers, both novice and pro, naturally people come here to look for their budget photographers.

passive way is just ignore the request,
active way is to educate people.
some will post sarcastic remake,
some will reply in more diplomatics way.

The bottom line is, photographers demand respects from the general public, even in peer photographers,
failed to understand these, these are what will they get.

Enough said.

Professional photography in Singapore is generally not regarded as a recognised "profession" for the lack of any form of regulations of standards. I have observed for a long time how Clubsnap have done an astronomical job for grooming photographers. And I also tried to sit back while the very same grooming place also became the breeding ground of exploitation. While I can once again take the back seat and mind my own business and assuming the "if you want to, then respond. If not, just ignore" stance that is popularly agreed and adopted here in Clubsnap, I have to cast my vote of strong disagreement when I see potential exploitation of any form that damages the professional image and interest of commercial photography in Singapore.

Low budget is OK but where do you draw the line between low budget and exploitation? Asking for a " good outdoor shoot " for the purpose of " marketing ", in other words, to make more money, for a commericial purpose and will offer a token sum or a meal. Tell me do this sound like low budget or exploitation? No? does not sound like expolitation?

It is because CS is such a popular site for photographers, both novice and pro, that is why people in the know, photographers who know the rates and suspect that exploitation is taking place should say something. To say that everyone should just ignore and keep quite is the same as telling everyone to mind their own business even when they see something wrong. I will never agreed to this.

I repeat my earlier post:

Hello, thanks for your interest in this post. I was refered here by Mr Rory Daniels, and I am heartened to see that there is so much interest and passion in photography here in Singapore! Thanks Rory! I have seen some of the pictures here and I must admit that among you guys, there would definitely be some that would rank among the world's best photographers one day. If you are not yet there, it's definitely not your fault... it's just that your moment is not yet here. Only a matter of time. Keep it up!

I am looking for someone to assist me and my colleague take some simple pictures. We would like to include our pictures for the next marketing campaign, so we need someone to take some good outdoor shots of us in our suits. That's it. Pretty simple and straightforward.
We smile, and you shoot. Maybe a 10 minute or so job. Probably we can take about 30 shots (full/half portrait) on my SD Card using your camera and I will go home and blow up the pictures up on my computer to select the best one to send to the printer.

Just a quick job. As payment, we can arrange for you to have the brochures for you to build up your portfolio. Or a token fee. Or we can buy you lunch. Whichever works for you, works for us! :D

If you would like to take up this offer, please respond! your.top.realtor@gmail.com

Thank you!

Have you been to any amusement park lately?

Hehe, this one really cracked me up
:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

My only comments are, if the shot is such that only takes 10 minutes to finish, and perhaps may simply be a snapshot - the value of such a shot in a portfolio would need to be considered beforehand.
