Found a kit lens review here, mainly simple MTF chart plus distortion test at the bottom, no photo, it's not a comprehensive test though.

Konica-Minolta AF DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 (D)

Surprising it rate kit lens at 18mm very sharp at wide open (use 100mm macro lens to compare), even sharper than 28-75mm f2.8 wide open :dunno: ? But I guess it mean the centre only (it didn't specify how to read it though), kit lens seem to have bad distortion especially on left side though, wonder it depends on individual lens or not.

more other minolta lens test done by the same person, including the 100mm macro lens:

A bit surprise with the sharpness of this lens at 18mm..

Quite an interesting test...

That means I just bought one nice lens at bargain price.. hehe,.

Here's a shot with the kit lens, straight off the camera without post-processing except size reduction by "Save for Web".

Actually, the sky was overexposed because I upped exposure compensation +1 to get reflections in the water but I did not have a graduated ND filter with me as I intended to shoot birds. Wouldn't it be quite easy to correct with PS?

would love to try the 18-70 again.

not really... details are lost... and even PS cannot get back the clouds.

I will do some testing next few days and post some result.

Quite some personal comments on the kit lens at:

my feeling is shooting at f5.6 is good.. f8.0 is even better.

Any comment?

Can try if I have more time
