I saw a Nikon D60 selling at $835, kit. Seemed a bit too good to be true. Forgot to ask if it came with warranty.

What's the shop name?

There's only a trust-worthy shop in Sim Lim, in my opinion. And that is Alan Photo.
Even then, you have to do your homework first when gg there, meaning know the market prices of the stuff you want to buy first.
There, they will not give you the best pricing right away, you have to bargain real hard. Their attitude is ok, and may not be that pleasant at times.
Get an equote from them first.

The rest of the shops in Sim Lim, pls stay away.

Edison something, 1st floor at on of the corner entrances.

I've checked out other shops. Most shops around Peninsular gave me $900, like Cathay, Alan at Funan. One small shop gave me $880.

+ 7% gst then 893.45

sharing my experience on buying my brand new D80 body that came with freebies:)

this was 3 days ago.

12 pm - called alan photo to ask about D80 body price, quoted $1240 with 2gb sd card

4pm turned up at alan photo, asked for alan the salesman, & he said to me " wah bro, you sibeh lucky! price of D80 body went down.

i asked him how much??? bloody shocked ah :)

he answered, ok here's the best deal i can offer for CSers like yourself..........

BRAND NEW D80 BODY, LOCAL WARRANTY BY NIKON SG, PLUS FREE LOEWEPRE EX180 NIKON BAG PLUS 2GB SANDISK SD CARD....all these for $1188 including GST!

wahlaueh bros......mai tu liao man! i thought to myself.

on the deal & went away happily after that.

out of curiosity, i popped by 2 shops away & asked how much thy selling their D80 body local set....answer? $1299 without tax yet.

moral of the story,? ALAN PHOTO IT IS:)

( I am not affilliated to AP nor working for them nor earning commission, just wanna share good lobang for a new D80 body with another D80 enthusiast thats all. )

Based on my own experience on SLS shops, here's the summary:

1. Alan photo: Like wat the bros here said, u have to do your homework and know your stuff. Best is if u know the salesman or bring a friends who does. When I dunno anyone and popped in on my own, I got quoted carrot price.

2. Edison: I know the salesman there. They normally quote without GST, hence, u need to clarify with them before u bargain. If u bargain, probaly get another $10-15 off.

3. Orient Photo: For the times I had been there, I observed that they quoted pricing quite consistently, whether to locals or tourists. They sell local n grey sets to suit different budgets, which I think its good as it offers a choice to consumers.

So far never try any other shops.

Happy shopping! :D

Thanks for the advice! Hmm wonder how much price of D60 would drop in a month or two

ap and op, the rest not sure, do your homework and if it is too good to be true, it probably is, just keep that in mind

Basically it's about U knowing your stuff and the price of the item ... If you know the price and not knowing the technical details of the item... U r a newbie to them... if you know the technical details and not the price of the item... U r a newbie to them... so @ times... need to be confident aand walk around a few shops to check 1st:D

SIM LIM???? This topic has been over discussed.

My verdict...only Orient Photo, had very good experience there, both service and price wise. Alan photo? Bad service although some CSers will swear by AP. The others...dun even bother, waste time only.

So its the first floor (AP) and last floor (OP) and nothing in between! Unless you know your stuff very well.

I had bad experience with both Alan Sim lim, Cathay Peninsula , and De luxe Peninsula.
1. When I saw a promotion at Alan website that quote D40 kit with 2 GB and Nikon bag bonus for 799 I go there and talk to the shopkeeper that I interested with the promotion and I want to buy the D40, and you know what they say? "you have to print the promotion page and showed it to me" (I'm not seeing that information in the website) and I said that my house is far and he just said lightly "you go to the internet cafe and then print there and then come back here to show me the promotion page" inside my mind I said are you crazy??? I'm here to buy not to ask for free and you told me to do something ridiculous. I just go out the store and promise my self that I will never gonna buy something from you again.
2. Before I go to Alan I call Cathay to ask for D40 price, and they said that the price is 750 with tripod bonus, I talk to the lady that I will come to buy it but I don't need the tripod, can I change it with another bonus? she said no, I said ok, I want to buy SD card and standard bag for my D40 so how much? she said that 2 GB card is 40 and standard bag is 45, after hearing that I just feel so awful and decided not to buy there.
3. Finally I go to De luxe at Peninsula and after bargaining the deal price is 800, but after I paid it suddenly he said that my D40 need UV filter and he just couple the uv to my lens and ask 30 for a 10 dolar vitacon uv filter and his face is so sour that I better to pay it.

So my conclusion is I haven't found a honest and friendly in Singapore. :thumbsd:

agreed with old man lee,try orient photo look for stanley friendly and know the stuff well.
2nd option john 3:16 at funa also friendly and helpful samuel. I personally also have bad experience with cathy at peninsula i feel that the salesman there have double standard against newbies they feel uncomfortable when u ask too many item about the prices, and once i check how much is the price on nikon 600 vr the reply was the lens is too expensive not for any tom'dick and harry! i turn my head off and come back with a 70-200 f2.8 to buy a pack of lens paper from him.:nono: don't ever look dwon on people:bsmilie:

to be frank, for someone who complains so much you seem very meek when it comes to dealing with salesmen.

put down your foot, have a backbone. if you can argue with the cathay lady, i don't see why you don't want to argue with de luxe.

shops have reasons for promotion. you got ntuc, their rice bag give free bakeware, you got try to ask cashier to see if they can swap for something you need, like chocolate or not? to be honest, you are not being reasonable in 2. cheers.

I'm not arguing with either of the shopkeeper, did you see any sentence which point me arguing? when the lady quoted the price I just said ok thank you and decided not to buy there, but with De luxe the shopkeeper even worst after I paid he just couple the uv and then when I bargain the price he said "don't be like that lah" with sour face and unfriendly tones, and one more thing I'm not complaining to you or anybody, I just want to share my experience.

Number 3.. If you don't want to buy, dont have to.. Everytime they try and sell me a filter, i will just say no...

AP SLS has been good to me, AP funan not so good..

There is a very good and trustworthy shop but their prices are not the lowest, but you know that you will never be cheated by them... and that is John 3:16 at Funan. Their prices are normally slightly higher, but you will get honest, friendly and good service.

However, if you are only looking for a bargain, i.e. must get at lowest price, then you would need to deal with the likes of some people you have encountered previously. The question you have to ask yourself is whether you would rather save $20 or get good friendly and honest service? The decision is yours...

Yeah I agree with you, $20 cheaper is not worthed. Next time I will try 3:16, I heard their good reputation too.
Thanks

You will wait for your turn to be served at a premium.

Suggest that you give Orient Photo a chance.
