Some time got to be firm n get what you want. Like a memory card which I got from Far East, cost me $45. I went AP (Good shop) n still get $45. If other shop, I think at least $60 as it is a fast card. Unlimited warrantly some more, what u say? ;p

hi. perhaps unlimited warranty (aka lifetime warranty) is a feature of purchase of most memory cards already. i'll be very suspicious if the shop tells me otherwise. ha

but you have a good point. look around. dun kenna chop.

i will be one bad guy and call names.
i think besides shrewd sales behaviour, some salesman are quite vicious. was at song brothers during mid june and decided to pop by to see see. overheard this salesman doing business with a customer, and the customer said that he had previously visited far east and was making comparison between song bro and far east. gosh the salesman made personal attack on the far east shop the customer quoted, mentioning things about that shop known for "chopping" foreigners and making empty claims.

do what it takes in business huh?

but i do have good experiences. was looking for stopwatches in tampines central and was quoted $40 for a non-beeping casio stopwatch. i was of cos shocked at how ex, and uncle gave me a nuance that sounded like i was ignorant.
thankfully i didn't buy. found the SAME stopwatch at 1st level sim lim shop at $25. that's was 1st quotation. i told that shop's uncle i was previously quoted $40 and he was "wah!" (privately disgusted). but i was publicly and totally disgusted.

so nearby and neighbourhood shops are not necessary better.
guess we really need to look around and know our stuff. better to ask around what prices other people got it for before buying. i think that if there are people to recommend you, your buying experience would be better and cos you have slightly more accurate expectations now.

So what is the shop name then ?

i will be returning back to singapore soon... in 2 weeks time. :bsmilie:

I had encounter same problem too... My cousin & I went looking to buy a Canon Ixus...the shop offer great price (cheaper than other shop) & then the salesman divert our attention to Konica Minolta & we got slashed S$100 by the salesman. Regret....should have bought Ixus instead.

GUIDE TO BUY IN SIM LIM:

1) Not to go there before you survey somewhere else.
2) Not to buy item that you are never survey before.
3) Must check out all the possible store around for the standard price.
4) Buy only those who quote you around 5% cheaper then the standard price.

I had been getting this for the 4th time. Believe it or not Try yourself out.

The guide is avoid SIM LIM altogether... i rather spend more and buy from Best Denki or Harvey Norman. :nono:

do your research first lah. HN and best denki also have high prices because they hire a lot of promoters. do your research and you wont get cheated.

Like MOS burger vs Mac, Starbuck vs Kopitiam.
U pay more for the service and for an assurance that they won;t charge ridiculously higher that make u feel like been cheated... :bsmilie:

just insist on what u want... if a deal is too good to be true, most likely it will stay that way...

for camera, i go to those few shops which i patronise often... same for pc hardware and such... cos once i went SLS was buying a NAS (long ago), went to a shop, without doing my research, 1 shop sold me almost 2x the price diff, best of all, i bought then saw another shop selling cheaper... damnit... so lppl... no point argue...

so now, research, buy, enjoy...

SLS = Shame Lame Square

Just go Funan...

Funan is having the same shops as in Sim Lim Square. The best is just fixed your mind on what you want and never change your mind half way.

they are selling it at recommaned retail price...go check the manfrotto tripod at HN ...their price is on par or even lower than some of the shop quoted. and credit accepted w/o surcharge.

lol standard tricks man.
the only thing where the price is consistant are the computer stuff. eg all the stuff u need to for ur diy pc. as for mp3 players cameras yada yada. u'll only get ripped.

TS - u mentioned this happened to u 4 times!?!??

u mean after the first 2-3times u still did not get the hang of this!?? my first reaction to the thread when i saw it was ...oh nooooooo not another conned at SLS thread!! :bsmilie:

someone mentioned slapping the shops...hehehe...name the place & time to meet dude...you're on!! phewww...feel sorry for so many cs mates getting buggered at SLS ...it's time the tables are turned on them! come on people...wake up & smell the coffee!

SLS is a good example of heaven and hell. The first 3 floors (except the very decent Alan Photo) are a buyer's hell. From the 4th floor up, it's all good stuff.

hehehe....perhaps you did not read the 15pages long thread on AP here a month ago!?? :D

but i like ur heaven & hell analogy...there are some brief spots of order there too...difficult to find but they're there! :)

Must take note of those corner shops near the exit/entrance towards the Rochor Canal Bus-stop, always got salesman sitting on high-chair out their shops.

Nearly got it from them many years back. Quoted extremely low price on a Canon Camcorder and told me to wait while he ask his colleague to get the stock. Meanwhile showed me a demo on a "more highend" camcorder which can see in the dark!!! Use a shoe box with a toybird at the far-end of the box, use the "highend camcorder" and activate the nightmode and tell me only this "highend camcorder" can allow me to see in the dark. Crap. I was waiting patiently for the stock to arrive, while he continued to demo other "highend camcorders" for nearly 1/2 hour, and the colleague is nowhere to be seen, may have gone to China to get the stock I think

Decided not to wait and leave, guess what, he dare to reduce the quoted price again to make me stay. I just left and went to the basement foodcourt for a drink, there I saw his colleague drinking kopi and smoking there

Always go to the authorised resellers.

Just sharing my BAD experience AT SIM LIM SQURE.

Especially when you see those salesman standing around those shop.

I once look for a video camera. Most store will quote the standard price let say 2500 for a video camera b4 GST. Then when got quote for something like 2000 and even 1850 inclusive GST*. so i think i should buy.

Here the trick come.

you will notice, they never put those stock in the shop.

They invite you in. then the game started.

first they will show you the camera that you interested with..., they will pretend to check for the stock, they will even said they have stock.

then they will try their very best to show you other product WHILE STOCK NOT ARRIVE YET, THEY DO THIS TO HOLD YOU IN THE SHOP THEN SHOW YOU OTHER PRODUCT. -- this is trick, why let me tell you.

They will wash your mind by showing to you how good is the other product with the SMALL LCD screen and SMALL TV, come to the point they notice you interested with the product, then the BARGAIN COME.

SERIOUSLY that is the FACT -- they have no intension to sell the product to you at that price - they just want to get you IN and sit down, Then all their intension is TO SELL YOU OTHER PRODUCT- WHY - BECAUSE that product you have not survey before, THEY MAKE YOU STUPID, AND GIVE YOU A SKY HIGH PRICE AND YOU BARGAIN ON IT.

Product which they show me, salesman quote me 2200, you know how much the same item sell next store.. IT IS 750.... , THEY MAKE YOU BARGAIN... how much u want? -500 ? -1000 ? are you able to judge, even u can say -1000, i tell you, you not dare to say it because as you know, possible salesman will make fun of you. SO THEY USE THIS TRICK... once you do the bargain they WILL HOOK YOU..... because YOU SHOW THE INTENSION.... and if you don't buy HAHAHAH THEY WILL DISGRACE you in the PUPLIC... HOW true TRY YOURSELVE. and the best part is if you -1000 that mean price will be 1200+5%gst=1260, they still earn you extra 472!!!! you think you got real bargain?? u need to find it out yourself

How do i know they have now intension to sell you.

1) when i get the quote at 1850, i sit there listen to him for one hour, i asked few time if the stock here, he said yes we have, but never bring out the stock. They try to sell me other stock... which i am not interested, finally then come to the selling of the product you look for...

-- first the salesman will pull down his face
-- come to the money part which he said, OK - as this is 1850 then there will be no warranty... i think for a while then said OK... then he as how u make payment --- credit card -- he said need to add 2.5% -- wow then i said i use NET.. OK -- come again he said as this is no warranty -- later i will put a big remark in the receipt that " NO WARRANTY "" -- then i said OK again ... and come another, he pull out the calculator and cound 1850 + 0.5% nets +GST!!!! 5% - initially he said no GST now he claim to have GST--- then i argue, he said is ok you can come back again ... the i said OK again--- THEN HE SAID NO STOCK !!!!!!!!!!

2ND Attempt: My friend.
-- found one shop quote 2000, without GST -- the we said OK when make the payment, come the warranty issue AGAIN... - my friend said OK --- then NO STOCK again, my friend say don't mind to take the display set ... YOU KNOW WHAT SALES MAN SAID " THAT DISPLAY SET IS PUT THERE BY VENDOR SO CANNOT SELL"

agree with u therfore i dont go sim lim and buy things most of the time

hmm wonder if anyone very free actually U-tube these shops and post it up online :bsmilie:

LOL

that time i wanted to buy K800i from 1st floor hp shop. i did my homework on k800i and its price n all its functions. when i was looking at his k800i set in the shop, i showed him i have knowledge of k800i functions. the salesman then tried to psycho me away by saying k800i bass not good when used as mp3 player. LOL. this is despite the fact that he knows that i know about the specs n functions and stuff about the k800i.

on hindsight, i realised that he is a quick thinking animal resorting to this psycho trick because he is still banking on the fact that i have not yet heard of how the k800i sound is like, hence he believes there is a chance that his ploy to say that the bass is not good may work. this goes to show how shrewd they are

then he tried to influence me to buy another more expensive model - which is the old trick. i pretend to play into his trick awhile and then u can see him full blast on the old trick then i say - dont want, i still prefer to take k800i - then immediately he change tune and harps on the lack of bass. in the end i left without buying anything

few days later i bought a 2nd hand k800i from hwz, at a cheaper price from the simlim store. i tried the mp3 player function and true enough, the bass sounded good to me. hahaha - so the salesman lost :bsmilie:

My friends mother was convinced that the 350D was better than the 400D and since they are the same price, should buy the 350D instead. So she did.
