Sigma New Lenses. Alternatives for Canon?

sorry for the ignorance, but i have no knowledge of Sigma lenses at all. How do i know which Sigma lenses are EF-Mount Compatible?
if it has DC, then its for cropped.

hth...

Yes, one less reason for FF owners to brag. :bsmilie:

Anyway, ALL these releases look VERY attractive. But the most pertinent question is: how good are they optically? If they are any good, I can no longer claim the Canon 10-22 and 17-55 f/2.8 IS have no competition in terms of optical performance and features. :bsmilie:

Hopefully, the (i) 8-16 can perform as well as the Canon 10-22 (ii) 17-50 f/2.8 OS does NOT behave like Tamron's 17-50 f/2.8 VR (iii) 85 f/1.4 performs as beautifully as Sigma's 50 f/1.4.
if they can reproduce the sharpness as their 50/1.4... but i think AF accuracy is more of an issue than optical performance for sigma.

My guess is they will price 85/1.4 ard $1.2k and 70200 OS around $2.4k. Does it still look attractive at these price points?

I'd love to see what kinda distortion there is for the 8-16mm. Any sample pictures?

I'd wager the Siggy 85/1.4 will be closer to 1.4k or 1.5k (RRP) - based on estimated current pricing for other makers' 85mm f1.4 offerings (CZ, Nikon, Sony), it should cost a few hundred dollars less. If its RRP is really around 1.2k, maybe can consider.

I hope the 70200 performs better then the canon 70200 mkI if not I think I rather hunt around for a 2nd hand canon 70200 mkI

I want them to update their 50-150mm F2.8 HSM DC II with OS. :(

Don't think Sigma has produced any samples, but if they can be as good as their 12-24, then it's mighty impressive

WA 85mm f1.4!!!! olei!

I need 70-200mm F2.8 to complete my standard focal range collection.

If it is at >$2.2k range then have to consider Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS Mk1 instead liao.

However, someone ever told me, if Canon Lens offered USM, all 3rd Party like HSM, etc have to step aside in term of speed, is it true?

I don't think Sigma have Ring Type HSM... most HSM I see is micro motor, so it is similar to Canon's Micro-USM.

before buying my sigma 70-200, I do comparation with Tamron 70-200 f2.8 (that time I has Canon 70-200 f2.8 L non IS which I decide to dump*). I found Tamron IQ is better, but silent focusing makes me choose Sigma.

*dump=sold

I definitely don't think they will go sub 2k for the 70-200. At 2.2-2.4k, they will shake those on the fence between MkI and this OS.

USM is definitely faster and quieter than the HSM that I have used. But the HSM is already quite fast. So don't think it is a big deal here. However, I noticed that my Sigma lenses tend to not even bother to hunt in very low light conditions. Don't think this have anything to do with the motor drive but the computer chip???

So you going to dump your non OS for the OS? :P

There is ring type HSM from Sigma.

Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 50mm, Sigma 24-70mm, Sigma 70-200mm and the list goes on.

yeah, if the sigma 85/1.4 is going to cost $1.5k, i'd rather get a used 85L I.

Sigma really tot of everything. The hood for the new 70-200 actually is made of 2 parts. Use both for crop sensor!

but it must be welll built.

if not if you kenna impact, then the hod might break - its plastic after all.

I wish Sigma will update its 50-150 F2.8 with OS.
