Sigma New Lenses. Alternatives for Canon?

HAPPY !!!! Where to check the offical website for these new release?

im interested with 85/1.4:heart: hope no af issue. :bheart:

eyeing 70-200 :bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes:

Wow, 8-16. Its like the 12-24 for FF!

Yes, one less reason for FF owners to brag. :bsmilie:

Anyway, ALL these releases look VERY attractive. But the most pertinent question is: how good are they optically? If they are any good, I can no longer claim the Canon 10-22 and 17-55 f/2.8 IS have no competition in terms of optical performance and features. :bsmilie:

Hopefully, the (i) 8-16 can perform as well as the Canon 10-22 (ii) 17-50 f/2.8 OS does NOT behave like Tamron's 17-50 f/2.8 VR (iii) 85 f/1.4 performs as beautifully as Sigma's 50 f/1.4.

8 is around 13mm for APS-C, so they still beat crop by 1mm! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Just saw the MTF chart of the new 8-16. Looks VERY promising.

Ooops... I think Sigma has just aroused my earthly desires to upgrade and in the process destroyed my state of nirvana in the area of gear acqusition. :bsmilie:

Amazing edge performance on those charts, wow

Can't wait to see some test shots :P

Sigma really tot of everything. The hood for the new 70-200 actually is made of 2 parts. Use both for crop sensor!

Innovations... :)
Seems like 8-16mm's 4 FLD elements works well. Now the thing is... WHAT IS THE PRICE~!

EX series I suppose.

I think they have fixed the problem with new material, google around you will know this only happened to the earlier batch.

OH swee ah. If the price is right for the 70-200, it will be a must-grab for me! =x Where did you all find this news?

looking forward to the 85mm and 70-200mm!:D

Once again, Sigma has launched some innovative and exciting lenses!

Of the new lenses, the 8-16mm and 85mm f1.4 look the most promising. The 85mm f1.4 in particular fills a hole in Canon's 85mm prime line-up. Personally I am very interested to see how this new 85mm f1.4 performs. Build/design-wise it is very similar to the outstanding Sigma 50mm f1.4, hence I would guess that optical performance is probably very similar with its smaller cousin.

The question is with the AF - Sigma AF accuracy is known to be fairly dodgy - front and back focusing is a common problem even with new lenses. I hope that the company has resolved this stumbling block in otherwise what are excellent lenses. At 85mm, wide open f1.4, DOF is even thinner than at 50mm wide open at f1.4. Hence, accurate and consistent AF is a must for this class of lens.

Its a tempting proposition and if it perform up to specs, and priced right, it would be a welcome cheaper alternative to the pricey Canon 85L II. Will wait for reviews and actual samples first.
