Sigma DP3M - A User's Review

now clearing room in my dry cab......

How about a simple comparison with the Nikon D800E?
Ideally, the lens to be used on the D800E should be a 75mm prime lens but there isn't any such lens in that focal length that I know of or possess. But I do have a AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G and so I am using this lens on the D800E to compare with the DP3M.

The scene to be shot with the 2 cameras is the distant SingTel Tower from my balconey in mid-morning light at an aperure setting of f/8.0. Because the resolution of the D800E is much higher than that of the DP3M, the image from the D800E would be downsized from 4712 x 7360 to that of the DP2M at 3136 x 4704 before cropping. The longer focal length of the lens and subsequent downsizing should be advantageous to the Nikon D800E, I would think.

This is the shot of the scene taken with the Nikon D800E

What do you think?
A $1,200 vs a $5,000 setup ;)

Sigma DP3M is sharper and that it is smoother. Sigma win in my preference....

who is rushing down to buy the cam?

got any DPM outing? need to learn from u guys....

BTW, any express way to charge the battery? Charging time is more than 2 hours and it goes flat in no time.... :(
Any cheap battery?

Well, wong_se organised a very successful Sigma get-together once in Dec last year.

Maybe can get him to organise another outing for current and potential Foveon lovers. ;)
Dirt cheap 3rd party batteries for the DPxM series are readily available because of the popularity of the Ricoh GRD which uses the same battery as the Sigma DPxM cameras.

For those who are interested in getting the DP3M, please note that only 8 sets were brought in this round, of which 5 were allocated to Parisilk Holland Village and they had sold 2 sets already today. ;)

since you can;t make it. does it matter what time ? :bsmilie:
it is quite hard to organise an outing for foveon user. the group is already small, and there is no perferct time where everyone can make it.

I think as long as we have at least 6, it is good to go. Anyone ?

Wah lan.... The lens / sensor is super colourful! 见不得光

Hi Tomcat, hope you don't mind me adding more poison to this thread.
Since kitties are easily available models, here is Smurf at normal, 100%, 200% and 300%.
This shot came at a great risk, one of the other jealous cats came along and sprayed urine on me while i was photographing Smurf. I retaliated by sprinkling water in return.
Here goes, go figure.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Another review of the DP3M highlighting the improved color modes - the DP3M now have improved response to red and brown colors making it perfect for flesh tones in portraiture and the improved vivid mode renders gorgeous colors especially the greens for landscapes.
