Sigma DP2M - A User's Review

My dealer checked with Sigma Marketing... the DP1M should be available locally by mid-Sep or even earlier. ;)

Maybe we can get some heads up for the sigma dp1m and hopefully get sigma marketing to bring in the model earlier. Any other interested parties? I'm not sure if i can do this on the forum.

are you looking at end of this week or next week? ....

Sigma DP2M Review

Check out his comparison of the image quality of the DP2M against cameras like Sony RX100, Fuji X100, Leica M9/Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4, Sony NEX7 (see this one and faint:bigeyes:).

wow..it can rival with Leica M9P with 50mm Summilux !! this is serious

no need to faint, just go to your nearest store to grab 1 piece of Dp2M, and lay depsit for DP1M.

Sigma DP2M Review

To quote a bit from his review .... Ain't that a fact! .... :bsmilie:

Definately Not for Camera Pussys

Before anyone gets their panties in a twist over the perceived use of an obscenity, let's define terms. I am definitely not referring to the notorious Russian rock group Pussy Riot. Those are another type of pussy.

puss·y: Slang – A man regarded as weak, timid, or unmanly.

So, why do I write that the DP2M is not for pussies? Because in my photographic-context definition, a camera pussy is someone that is not confident about their photography. They believe that if only they had the right camera, their photography would improve. Better composition along with better technical execution would also ensue. Magical thinking.

The camera hero (the opposite of the camera pussy) on the other hand knows what kind of camera they need for the type of shooting that they do. They regard looking at spec sheets and comparing camera statistics as an onanistic pursuit. What counts is, does the tool come to hand (no puns intended) in an appropriate manner to get the desired task accomplished.

based on the review, can you imagine if they produce in future a better body with interchangeable lens for you to mount the leica 50mm?

Good to hear that the DP1M is finally coming out.
The DP1M and DP2M are 2 totally different animals just like a 28mm prime lens and a 50mm prime lens are different and have different usage. The DP1M is great for street and landscape while the DP2M can be used for street and landscape and other closer up shooting. If users are only shooting strictly landscapes and street, and can only buy one camera, then the DP1M would be preferrable. The close-up lens AML-2 however cannot be used on the DP1M it seems.
I have both the DP1 & DP2 and finds the DP1 more useful when I go overseas on holiday for landscape shots. The DP1M is a big improvement over the DP1 especially in the lens department as the DP1M has a much brighter lens at f/2.8 while the DP1 only opens up to f/4.
Think I would be adding the DP1M to my arsenal when it comes out. :)

To me this camera seems the best suited for one thing & one thing only - hardcore landscape photography.

The poor high ISO performance & slow AF condemns it to being a one trick pony. The IQ is totally stunning though. If only the dp1m came with a wider lens - something like 16-20mm (35mm equivalent) & I would have bought one in a heart beat. No need to lug a UWA for trips anymore. Pity!

Your dream has came true.
The DP1M is now available locally, well before the rest of the world... only thing is that this first shipment is extremely limited... I believe only 10 sets came in.
The price is the same as that for the DP2M. What's more, it still come with the original Sigma flash EF-140DG free, making Singapore probably the cheapest place in the world to get the DP1M + Flash bundle. ;)
Those who be interested in getting this camera now better hurry down to your dealers. :)

::) amazing details, sharp, very sharp!

Yes. Truly a dedicated wide angle camera 19mm(28mm) f2.8. Instead of spending thousand over dollars for a wide angle interested party should give this serious consideration. 46(30)megapixel in your pocket! One of my files says 61mb! In fact most of them are 50 over mb! And no need to change lens! The AF is much better than my dp2. Write time is slow, couple of seconds with extreme SD card. Can shoot with histogram in live mode, same as dp2. There is some purple colour at the 4 corners obvious whenever that part is sky.. Has a reddish tinge but can be corrected. Still looks good to me at 400ISO. I enjoy zooming in and out checking out the details and peeking into the shadow areas. I'm floored by the details and sharpness! And it is pocket size, ok may a big pocket size. If u are looking for a wide angle lens...
