Under good lighting conditions, the image quality of the DP2M is unbeatable even by the D800E.
This is especially so when viewed at 100% crop. When viewed at reduced resolution on the monitor, the images from the D800E can be quite pleasant though.
This hot air balloon shot was taken with the D800E and is similar to that in #35 which was taken with the DP2M.
A larger version similar in resolution and size of that from the DP2M is here.

Even though I'm very happy with the image quality of the DP2M in good lighting conditions, it can never be my main camera as it is just not versatile enough for the type of photography that I'm into. For one thing, it does not have image stabilisation or high ISO capability and it can be quite frustrating to use handheld under indoor conditions. The D800E on the other hand has no problem and is very dependable.
Take these 2 handheld shots for example of the same indoor scene taken with the DP1M and D800E.
DP1M 1/6s f/6.3 at 19.0mm ISO 100
D800E 1/30s f/8.0 at 28.0mm ISO 1000
It was very difficult to shoot this scene with the DP1M as I didn't want to use higher ISO and so had to contend with very low shutter speed and the resultant handshaking problem. It was not a problem with the D800E because of VR and excellent high ISO performance.
