Sigma DP2M - A User's Review

Thanks for the posting tip. Another amazing detailed shot from from dp2m! This will definitely win over those who love details and sharpness in. their pictures. You have probably help win over a few more dp fans. Do you have a similar scene with your D800 on a 50mm lens?
That shot was from the already obsolete DP2 way back in 2009, not the DP2M. If the output from the DP2 is so good, what would you expect from the DP2M? ;)

No wonder your exif file says 2009, i thought u forgot to change your date.
I am eagerly waiting for the dp1m. Any printer to recommend for big prints? As in commercial printing shop.
Thanks.

I think printer brand is a personal choice. If 'big prints' means A3 size, I would choose the latest Canon A3 printer myself. ;)

New cameras come out all the time. If we want to wait for the ultimate camera to come out before buying, we might never buy any camera in our lifetime.

 Sure there are new cameras that come out all the time, but companies do not deliver their new products in the same manner, eg, Canon and Nikon vs Sigma, and of course some companies have bad track record ....

The incremental improvements in hardware capabilities from DP2 to DP2s to DP2x do not justify buying the new models if we already have one of them. The images from my old DP2 is still much better than any of my latest P&S cameras as far as I'm concerned in good lighting conditions. If we subscribe to the practice of waiting for the latest variation before buying, we would not buy one even when DP1000 comes into the market and meanwhile, we are only depriving ourselves the pleasure of using one of these cameras.

if one has use the DP2s and the DP2 Merrill, the Merrill sensor size alone would have give a much visible difference, so even though it may still be slow in saving an image, one must know the simple reason for that .... if one has a passion for something, then there will have to be expectation and more of it, so one would expect a company to get it right the very first time, settling for anything less becomes a compromise .... of course whether one sees photography as simply taking pictures or as art form is really up to oneself ....

I cannot imagine myself not waiting 6 months to see if there are changes coming, so yes I will buy it tomorrow if I have a compelling reason to do it, and then sell it after to get back into the waiting game .... and this is only the initial release .... so please do not for your own sake wait for the DP1000, just the DP1 Merrill will do .... :D

Hey guys!

I got my DP2M from MS Color today! And since I got it within this month, they throw in the flash FOC too. For your information, it comes with 2 batteries. Just in case the salesman asks you to get another one, hold the horse. Most of them don't know that Sigma provides two batteries for this unit. Will show you guys the output soon! :)

Congrats. Hope you got it at a good price. The DP2M battery is the same as that for the Ricoh GRD4 for which cheap 3rd party batteries are readily available. Can always get those if you need more batteries.

My first panorama with the DP2M, Today's not a good day for shooting though as it was very hazy courtesy of the Indonesians and El Nino.

Hey guys,

Went to MacRitchie this morning and took some random shots. Not sure if I've chosen the best place to push this camera though. But anyway, here they are!

Thanks Mr Khaw,

Not yet. Still pretty new to this camera. Trying to get used to its strengths and weaknesses. Right now, all I can say is despite its many quirks, after looking at the images it can produce, all is forgiven. :)

Hey guys,

Here are few more I shot today at Lower Pierce Reservoir:

Here's one converted to black and white using the default "Monochrome" WB setting in the Sigma Photo Pro software. Getting 3D pop in this camera seems to be a pretty easy thing to do. ;)

did I said wait? ....

check out the sample photos of the DP1 Merrill here Sample Photo Gallery | SIGMA DP1 Merrill : Special Contents .... and a few hours ago, there were news that it will be release mid-Sept at usd999, and who knows, maybe good things come to those who wait ....:D

Just interested to find out, how long does it takes to achieve focus in good light for taking a photo of the person 2-3 meters in front of you? since the primary limitation of this cam is the focusing speed so i think this information will be helpful

Thanks

Here's another B&W shot. Notice the clouds and the man's black chair and beach shorts? I wonder how many P&S can capture such high DR in a single shot!

Good to hear that the DP1M is finally coming out.
The DP1M and DP2M are 2 totally different animals just like a 28mm prime lens and a 50mm prime lens are different and have different usage. The DP1M is great for street and landscape while the DP2M can be used for street and landscape and other closer up shooting. If users are only shooting strictly landscapes and street, and can only buy one camera, then the DP1M would be preferrable. The close-up lens AML-2 however cannot be used on the DP1M it seems.
I have both the DP1 & DP2 and finds the DP1 more useful when I go overseas on holiday for landscape shots. The DP1M is a big improvement over the DP1 especially in the lens department as the DP1M has a much brighter lens at f/2.8 while the DP1 only opens up to f/4.
Think I would be adding the DP1M to my arsenal when it comes out. :)

Maybe we can get some heads up for the sigma dp1m and hopefully get sigma marketing to bring in the model earlier. Any other interested parties? I'm not sure if i can do this on the forum.
