Lovely...

haha, i suppose ttl works perfectly on the nikon flash.
Probably, we should catch up.

Flash usage.. Well, I just like flash. Probably trying to be the next accidental photographer like yone or terry richardson. Get well paid and travel around the world. Kidding, it's mainly for my works.

p.s. I work at this magazine, where I deals with your picture every month, mr cai!

Sorry dont think i know you.. Which mag you working for? Juice or flag? Btw am not mr cai of Eden if that's who you're thinking about.

Yeah like the use of flash too, just need to know how to blend it in. Intially i quite like TTL flashes, and never really understood when I kept on reading bout ppl complaining about TTL.. Now that I'm using flash more often, I kinda understand and am slowly not using it when I can. Cause the TTL's preflash is quite irritating..

thanks intosite for the info, I do like the old look too, at least snatchers and thief on the streets would just pass if they see that you're only using an "old" camera hehehe.

I just hope the price will drop soon hehehehe, can't wait to get my hands on it.

haha.. i think price here will not drop so soon.. if you really want it, you can consider getting from states or something, 800 usd.. if you have a friend there, it'll be without shipping..

but its a camera i've really get to used to, not trigger happy anymore.. haha.. cause it's kinda slow.. but i find manual focusing to be a pleasure.. no more pushing buttons n all...

intosite, oops.. my bad. Haha, where i work aint important.

I totally with what you said, DP1 isn't suit for every shooter out there. The user will have to learn to appreciate and adapt to the limits in order to have fun with it. Still again, the shots amaze me every now and then. word on!

I sure hope that their DP2 has a 40mm equivalent but faster lens.

I'm not hoping for a more zoom lens in future models, I wish it becomes wider hehehe, I dunno I think wide lens has more use rather than zoom lens.

Unfortunately you're right that this toy will not drop its price very soon :( I think it is still better to buy here at least if you have any problems you could bring it back to the store hehehe.

yeah.. true.. never know what comes out of the box..

i think for me 28mm is not bad.. don't mind a 35mm... but i think if want a longer lens and larger aperture will only make the camera bigger... unless the decide to drop the optical quality and use less elements thus making the lens more compact.. if not it'll start to look like a slr...

to think of it, my rollei 35s, made mony years ago, with its superb 40mm 2.8 lens by carl ziess, when extended is almost about the depth of the dp1..

Didn't know about this DP-1 till I saw it in Japan last week... didn't know there was such a camera around.

Anyone knows what's the current price in SG?

Thanks tomcat,

I seem to have a problem getting it upated.
I place the .bin file in my sd card but the camera don't recognise and didn't give me option to update.
Anyone have this issue?

Hi guys,

any idea which shop selling DP1 viewfinder & the hood?
And the price for them?
Thanks.

Try Parisilk Holland Village... about $38 for the hood and $190+ for the viewfinder.

Thanks for the reply! Holland V quite far from my place, was hoping shops like MS color, CP or Alan Photo also carrying Sigma DP1 accessories.
I would really love to have a viewfinder for my DP1 as I am use to using viewfinder on my DSLR. But seems like the price is really a killer and it just do framing and don't provide any information like focus lock etc.
Anyone using the Viewfinder? Worth the price? And 1 more things, is the Sigma close up lens selling in Sg already?

Another thing, actually I got just got the DP1 2nd hand. I noticed that the WB is not very accurate, and focus slow, lens slow, image always blur, quality don't seems too good. Mostly tested at indoor & night as no chance to go for a outdoor day shoot yet. Writing time is very slow etc. I am aware of all the review stated all these problems. But I am worry that maybe some of my problems is not the standard problem but a defect on my set since I never try a brand new dp1 so I dunno whether my set is consider ok or not.
As I saw the photos posted on the internet from DP1 really good & sharp.

Lastly, noticed that this thread is getting cold recently and difficult to find DP1 shooting tips & guide online. It's seems like it is not easy to make full use of this camera to produce nice quality picture like this guy standard from http://www.rytterfalk.com/. Can we start a user list to at least check out how many DP1 users we had in this forum. Thanks.

First of all, did you check to make sure that your DP1 has been updated to the latest firmware of Version 1.04? Even the Sigma Photo Pro software should be updated to the latest version (2.5 for Windows). And to get the best out of the DP1, you should shoot in RAW and develop using Sigma Photo Pro.

If those shops are more convenient to you, you can always call them up to ask whether they have stock or not and if not, will they order the items for you from the distributer. Optical viewfinders are usually expensive due to the quality of the glass elements in them. Just check how much those of Voigtlander rangefinders cost and you will understand. It may be useful in the case of the DP1 when shooting outdoors under very bright conditions as like almost all LCD screens, it could be difficult to see clearly the image displayed on the screen under those conditions.

The handling of the DP1 is generally slower than most P&S digicams but not excessively so at least to me. It all depend on user expectation. If you expect lightning fast response from your cameras, then this is not the camera for you. To me, this camera is OK as it makes me compose and shoot in a deliberate manner just like when I use rangefinders and film cameras.

The DP1 is bitingly sharp and the image quality are unbelieveably smooth and noise free at low ISOs. I could not believe my eyes when I did a 100% crop one-to-one comparison with the images of the same scene taken with my best DSLR. It is however not very good for night photography unless you mount it on a tripod. So, yes, you should get very sharp images under the proper conditions. If you have to test it indoors, I would suggest that you use the built-in flash. My first post of DP1 test images here were flash shots and they were impressively sharp and detailed.

If your photos taken with flash or outdoors under good lighting conditions are not sharp, then there must be something wrong with your unit and you should bring it in to the service centre for a check.

Thanks for your reply.

I am the latest version of Sigma Pro for Mac and using the 1.03 firmware. I think 1.04 is a type rite? And tested with Raw most of the time.

Actually before getting the camera, I read all the review etc and understand the limitation.
I choose IQ over fast response speed and got the camera. What I worry now is actually whether my set is a faulty one as mine is a 2nd hand and it seems till now I am not yet really impressed with any shot I got from dp1 yet. Maybe I don't know how to use it yet, or my skill suck or I don't have the time to really go shoot around. Hoping that it is not due to the hardware problem.
And noticed that the iso is quite noisy but maybe I was always testing the shoot in low light condition and using higher ISO but read from some forum that it mention it perform not bad till ISO800.

Here is some ok test shot I did. Tomorrow will go out test the cam in day light and hope to have good result and pray my set is a good one.
