Apparently everyone forgot about power requirement. Nobody asked about how much power the sigma lens uses. With so much huge & heavy optics inside, the motor gears ought to be quite large which means more power is required to drive the optics. I'm taking a wild guess you can't take more than 100 shots before you need to replace your camera battery unless the lens has its own battery compartment.

Uses its own power supply perhaps? QB Turbo?

Powered zooming beside HSM and maybe IS?

Built-in variable Neutral Density filter beside the titanium aperture blades?

Its probably powered by a Millenium Hydrogen Fuel cell. Able to power it for 100 years. If you reverse charge it, the lens becomes a powerful particle cannon ~ but last only 10 shots.:bsmilie:

or connect the slr to a dc adapter.. cant move around with such gigantic lens... power requirement is a factor to consider too.

What, they are NOT including the Tripod Collar AGAIN???

If only they have added Image Stabilizing mechanism for hand-held night shots. that would be perfect....:what:

Goodness Me! What a beauty? Upzz for the designer!!! Probably one from the Pentagon.

No IS is going to help anybody handcarry this horribly huge lens.

Unless it was a prototype OS from Sigma, said to correct up to 10 stops worth of shutter speed.

AS in camera = 3 stop
+
IS/VR/OS in lens = 3 stop
+
Monopod = 1 stop (hands not stable)
+
Correct use of monopod & shooting tech. = 1 stop

only 8 stop:sweat:

Don't forget they're not including a tripod ring.

Definitely new OS from Sigma. 6-stop correction enough already. Can shoot at 1/8s at 500mm.

now you have to factor in ground vibrations, since countries around singapore are so vulnerable to earthquakes :sweatsm:

wah!! you must have arms with size of 19" to hold a 10+kg camera setup steady at 1/8s:bigeyes:

what tripod and ball head combi can take the weight?

is there a tripod and ball head that takes 40+kg????
wonder if sigma's package include a porter???
