Sigma 50mm f1.4 - new batch = outstanding performer

Grey set? Ms color ones are warrantied sets.

OP sells local warranty Sigma lenses only. They used to sell some grey sets in the past but they no longer do so for the past couple of years.

Alot of photographers seem to be very concern on the focusing of this lens...
But why not you just test it out before purchasing it?

Bring ur camera and the focusing sheet - test it out before buying. If it is not sharp, ask for another copy and try it again till you are happy with it.

I did that while I was in Bangkok knowingly that it is grey set. So i tested it thoroughly before buying.
The price is so much cheaper...

Again, sorry for the question because I'm really quite a newbie. But if there is a problem with focusing beyond 3metres, will testing it with a focusing sheet help? Is the focusing problem existent only beyond 3 metres or is it that the focusing problem is accentuated beyond 3 metres so people complain about it?

ur qns very chim... all i did was test the lens inside out before buying it.

Either you buy local or grey set, there is still a fee for calibration... so no difference.

Grey set warrants no free calibrations. Local sets entitled up to two free calibrations.

Actually I thought if you buy overseas you can get the international warranty for 1 year which allows you to have a callibration? :p

No longer. The terms stated nowadays are local sets get free calibration only iirc.

Like that ah, then one must ask the seller whether the lens is 3rd hand already.

If not, 3rd owner may have to bear the calibration cost, then might as well buy new one.

if body got the ability to calibrate front or back focus... dnt need to go back service centre...
i dnt own one yet, but play alot of the sigma 50mm f1.4...
dnt zoom in, the slightly front focus is barely visible...
will try the body calibration when i have time...
cant decide between sigma or nikon afs-50 1.4g yet...
for my case, which is mainly for kids potraits, seems like sigma will be a better choice..

is calibration a must? can this lens do a full body portrait? or 30mm will be the better choice?

No not a must unless it needs it, yes of course it can do full-body, it just depends on how much space you have and the crop factor of your DSLR (if it has one).

Any lens can do full portrait, as long as you can stand near/far enough to frame your subject.

can i say 30mm will be a better choice? cos i can almost always go nearer? but i may not go backwards given the space constraint?

I think the 30mm is a DC lens while the 50mm is a DG lens right?

Well... what can I say about Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM? :)
