Sigma 50mm f1.4 - new batch = outstanding performer

Grey set? Ms color ones are warrantied sets.

i think someone bought sigma lenses from OP and managed to calibrate it at Sigma Singapore FOC.. but my memory could be failing me though.

and i forgot to ask if those are local sets or not

anyway. how do i ensure that when i ask for the sigma 50mm f1.4 the shop pass me the new batch instead of the old?

The coating on the lens should be smooth and not velvety.

i see. thanks for the reply.

wonder if there's any comparasions of the physical build of the new/old lens

then , it's not worth to buy grey sets liao unless grey set's price dropped too.

Discovered that I can higher sharp hits using this technique in focussing the Siggy 50.
Hold down the "AF-ON" button while shooting. Using Single Shot mode. I tested it several times and found that this method increased the rate of correct focussing.
Give it a try and see if you also had discernable improvement on the focussing.

BTW - has any one seen any report or done any comparative review of the old and the new Siggy 50? (rough vs smooth barrels - to see if the IQ has been improved further?)

Went MS AMK and got the lens at $740 cash.
Still a newbie and the staff GT was nice to guide me on focusing issue and
Let me try out 2 lens.

Apologize if this question had been asked before.
I was wondering if I would to get Sigma 50mm f1.4 (Canon Mount) from HGK I suppose there will be a 1 yr International warranty in SG?
Should there is a need for calibration, there will be not additional cost since it is covered under warranty.
If not how much will calibration cost?

$150 -$180 is Sigma minimum charge for anything that require opening up the lens.
simply dust cleaning also $150......
-faints-

Sorry guys, quite a newbie to photography here. so if my question happens to be stupid, please forgive me!
I read somewhere way earlier in this thread that the Sigma 50mm 1.4 dosent focus well/is soft beyond 3m. Can that be corrected by the camera if you have a AF fine-tuning ability in your camera? :) Or must you find Sigma for the callibration to solve the problem?

Thanks! :)

I might be wrong. It may be depends on how far off is the accuracy. If it's small enough, it should get by with AF tuning.

Alot of photographers seem to be very concern on the focusing of this lens...
But why not you just test it out before purchasing it?

Bring ur camera and the focusing sheet - test it out before buying. If it is not sharp, ask for another copy and try it again till you are happy with it.

I did that while I was in Bangkok knowingly that it is grey set. So i tested it thoroughly before buying.
The price is so much cheaper...

Just out of interests, if the AF is off, how do Sigma adjust - by programming the chip to compensate or by adjusting the screws somewhere? Is it an electronic or mechanical adjustment.
