Sigma 50mm f1.4 - new batch = outstanding performer

Not sure if you have any specific use for 50mm at f5.6 f8 f11 with the 4 corners sharpness being tack sharp as a main determining factor. Perhaps you can list it out.

because 50mm is a everyday use lens. sometime one might want whole pic to be sharp, esp if u using it to shoot group photo

I do shoot a lot of group photos (can't help it) and a fair bit with the 30/1.4 on a DX body. From my memory 6R, S8R no issue. I have never recalled any serious issue with other photographers earning a living from the 30 or 50mm Sigmas stopped down. Like I said, I can't help it, and ever even risked 12-24 before with group pix (bad idea, not very sharp). Now I use other techniques...

Of course I am not saying that you are wrong (perhaps you shoot professionally as well, at a much higher level than me). Or you are a hobbyist going after the highest quality available with MF digital backs with 80K worth of equipment and this is just a play play "bang around" lens.

Now here's the 1D MarkIII, and vs the 50 1.2L $$$ glass. If I am not shortsighted or something wrong with my eyes, the Sigma is better than the Canon L. :) Bokeh I'll let the end-user decide, perhaps the L would edge the Sigma out by a fair bit and that might be what matters ultimately for this with the moola.

(in fact the corner sharpness/contrast for the Sigma at f1.4 is better than the Canon L at f2.0)

PS. Seriously, the 2 edges (left / right) are more important than the extreme corners. And are often better than the extreme corners.

Sometimes I just wished Sigma do up the 30/1.4 as nice as the 50/1.4.

Dear Senior bros & sis,
Why this Sigma 50mm 1.4 can't take micro.
What is the different in construction and build for lens with micro and nor micro??
Thanks in advance.

It'll be good if you can read up before posting. Just my 2 cents' worth.:bsmilie:

called up a few shops and it seems like there isn't any news about the new smooth coating....

for canon or nikon? The new canon stocks have smooth coating already. Nikon not yet.

i ask for nikon but the shops say they haven't heard of the new coating :(

point it out to them. let them compare between the current canon and sigma 50mm to see for themselves.

Hi all

I'm considering this lens vs Sony's 50mm f1.4. Care to share your views?

Hi I have got the lens from HK, with international warranty. May i know can i calibrate the lens in Singapore for free? Is calibration free for all local set? Thanks.

if you have the warranty card with official chop from the shop, the calibration in singapore should be free (they should honour the international warranty). you can call them up and check.

can anyone roughly tell me wads the diff between 30mm & 50mm f1.4?

i'm planning to buy my sigma prime by yr-end..using mainly for portraits(half body to full body)~

are u on the crop or full frame body?

30mm for crop and 50mm for FF. It the mounting that is the difference.

I have the 50mm on my FF.

i'm on crop..

but is there a significant difference if i use a 50mm on crop body compared to 30mm?

tried the lens from my friend. i'm impressed with the bokeh and sharpness taken wide open.

Hi guys. How is the AF consistency on your copies of this lens? If you take a few shots of the same subject with camera on tripod and re-focus before each shot, does focus shift around? Assuming lens has no back/front focus.

I notice the picture is a bit soft. Could it be front focusing issue?

The pictures are not soft. Merely not sharpened for screen use nia. Maybe the first pic it could be a wee wee bit front focused, but i'd not be bothered with that/.
