Sigma 50mm f1.4 - new batch = outstanding performer

got it at hkd 3650 at Hong Kong. Might not be the best deal as I was there for only 3 hours and kind of hit and run for me =)

tested my 50mm f1.4 sigma. Not the fastest AF and slower than my Panasonic 25mm F1.4 but much better than the highly acclaimed Olympus 50mm F2.0 lens.

Since I do not do macro much this is currently my best option. Olympus users should highly consider this lens and it is cheaper too!

Hi! Where did you get this lens from? When i was then end of April, Tin Cheung quoted like 3450 for this lens. Seems like most sigma lens appreciated like 10% more.

just a query. if we buy the lens from HK shops, will the warranty still be valid in sg? and does warranty cover calibration if there are problems with AF? thanks in advance!

my fren got his from HK. 1 year warranty instead of 2.5 years if u buy locally. It covers calibration as well.

thanks for sharing. anyway, anyone can share how does the AF speed of this glass compare to canon's USM in low light? i was thinking of acquiring it for my set up to shoot weddings and events etc but am afraid i will have a higher chance of missing shots..

any thoughts and comments would be appreciated, thanks

I felt that somehow you need to argue a bit at the Sigma agent then they give in & do it for you free... tat was in the past... now i not sure, the local set have their own warranty card... i am not sure if once you dun have that warranty card they will want to charge you.

This is what i ask : Hi do you honor the Sigma lens warranty that is bought from Hongkong Tin Cheung?

They reply this : For info, if you purchase the lens from overseas instead of from us via our authorized dealers in Singapore, you will not be entitled to support services such as free calibration and additional 1.5 years of local warranty if you register your warranty on-line.

I also have ask Sigma HK. They say as long as we have the international warranty card and sale invoice, Sigma company will provide lens calibration of no charge even at sigma singapore.

Sigma have a 2.5yrs warranty for local sets. It works like the original 1 yr + extra 1 yr if it is a local set distributed by them (they put in a warranty card of theirs) + online registration another 6 mths warranty free.

So i am right, now those sets not from the local agent, they dun give free calibration or warranty anymore.

Sigma lens can be found in most camera shops, even Song Brothers, South East Asia Computers.
