So far so gd. No calibration issue for me. DDE gives 1 yr shop warranty too. They also hv the 7yrs extended warranty for $49 for lens under usd$1000.

The problem is if we need to do calibration, who will do it for us? Cos if the set is not local set and we need to send to sigma service center they will charge us $150 which is kind of ex...

There are people in the market that does calibrations for you..not necessary to go to Sigma..doesn't men go to Sigma will be better than getting 3rd party to do either.
Usually if you buy from "grey" shops, they will have their own contact to do it for you..

Yup. Juz bring back to dde and they'll do it for u.

As for the canon 28mm f1.8, u juz need to type "canon 28mm 1.8 vs sigma 30mm 1.4" and u get pages of review to be confused. For a beginner who are still exploring, I will save a few hundred bucks for other equipments like flash and tripod.

After reading a few reviews, it seems that this lens is pretty bang for bucks in it's category. No regrets so far. Only thing is the size. It's the largest prime in it's range I guess.

I was there at DD last week but the 30mm they got (SN#XXXX2898) is front focusing on my 550D.
However 60D might might give a different story.

Thanks for updating. Ya, loh, the price they offer is reasonable consider a few 2nd hand without warranty is selling more then them...

Can I just go down to the shop for purchase instead of buying on line from dde? Cheers.

call first to check if they have stock on hand

Just want to check,

When you do a focus test using the focus chart, will it be difficult to test at F1.4 since the DOF is so shallow or is there a minimum F-Stop that we should test from?

it would be good to test on a few f stops. 1.4, 2.0, 2.8 and 8. Also, rmb to shoot at a range of more than 3metres. I had problems before after 3metres before.

Can we get the ppl from dde to advice ? Are they trustworthy?

Better not. Not that they are not trustworthy, but when it comes to testing, its always good to do it yourself thoroughly so that you wont have regrets next time. no point blaming the shop when they advise theres nth wrong with the lens and when you bring home, something wrong happens, right?

Get a friend who knws how to test to go down with you i think that would be the best way. (:

Ok, I admit I was poison by the thread. Just collected my lens from dde. The guy in store is very nice, I test around 30 min take around 50 picture before making payment...lol

Seriously I only own a kit lens and 50mm 1.8 with my 500d. Therefore pls note that my review and comment is from a newbie, don't take it too serious. :p

I have been looking at this lens for a few month, the reason what holding me back is the cost and all the sigma calibration problem.

Today I spend $502 + $21 (filter) for a brand new set but the colour is "grey" ....anyway is still better then spending 500+ for a out of warranty 2nd hand lens at b&s.

No more posting..going out to take some photo..:)

Dde: 4.5/5
Sigma 30mm- 5/5

If I may, here's a focus test chart I found online. Maybe can print out the test chart and test on the spot? Better to view on bigger screen for detail chk.

I hope u did not get the one with focus issue

IMO always use a tripod when shooting a focus chart to test for FF/BF.

I think I got this lens. Code seems familiar... Anyway, these are the test result on the Focus Chart. Did it quite haphazardly as I am rushing to sleep...

F1.4 on Sigma 30mm DC + Canon 60D

F1.6 on Sigma 30mm DC + Canon 60D

F1.8 on Sigma 30mm DC + Canon 60D

F2.0 on Sigma 30mm DC + Canon 60D

F2.8 on Sigma 30mm DC + Canon 60D

Based on te above, I think the focusing is fine for this lens on my 60D

The results you got are a way better than what I got in my 550D. Thanks for sharing

Hi all, sorry to ask a noob question, is it that all the sigma 30mm lens, grey or not grey, need calibration? I'm wondering if I should get in HK to save that $200.But If the lens by default needs calibation, it would make sense to get in SG correct? Thanks in advance!
