I got this lens a few days ago. Plan to use it for street shooting and even landscape.

I'm thinking to get a CPL and ND8 filter for it. But the 62mm size seems a bit weird, as far as I know. Kenko CPL PRO1D 62mm and ND8 cost nearly 120 SGD. Worth it?

Thanks.

hk3130. even cheaper if forgo intl warranty

Hmm... just some comments after using the lens on-off for about 1 year....

Its nice. If it choose to behave ... My copy is calibrated 2 times by sigma. Once took 4h, the other took 2 days. In any situation focusing tends to be erratic. Every 10 shots, prob will have 2-3 out of focus, even if the center focus point was locked only a high contrast area. Brilliant if it hits, frustrating if it misses for "that shot". Noticed that focusing tends to be off if the object is close to MFD. Asked sigma about it, they simply said ... its not a macro lens... go shoot at portrait range ... :what:

That said, its not as if the competitors are better. 50mm f/1.4 is unusable till f2. 28mm f/1.8 needs to be stopped down by still 2/3 stops slower... and cost wise the sigma is the cheapest, if you dont get a sg copy with sg warranty .... ;)

i assume you're using a grey set. wouldn't that mean you have to pay for the calibrations?

Nope. Mine is a local set.

I wonder if its something to do with the brand. Online, most complaints of the sigma are from canon users it seems. Wondering if its something to do with the way the lens is reversed engineered.

If it hits its really nice though

Sigma 30mm 1.4 with Pentax K-x. Very low light settings. This lens is superb.

I see this is a long thread and I'm not sure if someone has asked this question. Would it help if I brought my camera when buying this lens? Would I be able to check if it has a font/rear focusing problem by taking a few pics on the spot?

Pls dun bombard me if someone had already asked this question as I dun hv time to go thru the whole thread.

appreciate any advise...:embrass: and thks

Ask to test a few copies if you're actually gonna buy one. Pick up a good piece and save yourself the calibration trouble.

got mine online from HK.
so no testing at all.

Lens dun have shutter count so most shop will allow you to test if you are "sincere" enough. But do take extra care in handling the lens coz a simple rationale do apply... "once scratched or broken considered sold".

Thanks to all for the advise.. much appreciated.:)

I will surely bring my camera down if I decide to buy this lens.

am a happy owner of this lens...Just got it at a steal from DDElectronics....Its still a good deal although it a grey set, still have 1 year shop warranty....

wow...it really does look cheap. its the calibration issue that might be a problem though
