Here you go. At f1.4, look at her the sharpnest of her face. I made some mistakes on the setting actually, ISO should set to 100 but was set at 200, Exposure Comp should be 0.0 EV but was set at +0.3 EV. Still it is very sharp! :bigeyes:

Prime lens like this really great from indoor shooting without having to use flash and give you nice natural lightings. Of course you have to comprise on the flexibility.

The fact is 30mm is consider wider, for night scene shots, using f-stop 1.4 just need to set ISO 320 or ISO 400 (on Nikon D80) you can get shutter speed of 1/60 (stable handheld), you get nice natural lightings.

I realize prime lens deliver the best image quality, but i just don't find it flexible enough. Sometimes, you need the reach but situation don't allow you to go further, thatz where zoom lenses come in handy. I think prime lens is best suited for controlled/studio environment. :think:

and according to photozone, the sigma 30/1.4 has horrible corners wide open? is it noticeable?

Judging by the photo yipdanny posted above, i think it's pretty alright wide open. The corners seems fine to me. :dunno:

Yeah that's what I read too, but the photos don't seem to agree.

actually it's not surprising that primes have this kind of sharpness...
but i've seen better sharpness from a efs 17-55 IS....at f2.8.

If for full time income, if you have a good portfolio,, your skills and high quality output speaks louder than words. Maybe only less than 5% of your customers care what lens or body you use and 95% of them know very little or nothing about DSLR; they see DSLR means you are PRO. :bsmilie:

For many enthusiasts, they are very concern about "BRAND"; they want only "ORIGINAL". Scare friends will laugh at them. Some ended up go for BUY NOW PAY LATER option. That is why Singapore credit cards debts is increasing year by year! :embrass:
