anyone knows if the warranty for sigma lens is international? ie if i was to buy this lens from usa, would the warranty be valid in singapore? abes of maine is only selling it for 483 USD, which is only 710sgd at the current exchange rate! http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=SG18250OSAFC

Hi kikiaw,

I'm considering the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD, Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM and Nikon 18-200mm VR as a good walk around lens to replace the kit 18-55mm for my D5000.

Don't know if you have considered the Tamron prior to buying the Sigma and if you did, can you share what swayed you towards the Sigma?

I typically do not do post processing and do not use tripod (so VR etc important to me) so having a headache deciding what to get in order to minimize that so hope you can share some of your expertise.

Hi dared, Had chked with Sigma (singapore), guess u need to get the international warranty card instead their local warranty card and I also asked abt the local warranty here covering period just in case someone need the know what's the diff between with n without register online. Hope tis help. :)

Here's what they sent me today.

"Dear Sir

He probably has an international warranty card which is for one year.

On line registration is only for customers who purchase in Singapore from our authorized dealers who will supply the customer with the local warranty card to register on line. When you purchase from our authorized dealers there is 2 years warranty and additional 6 months for on-line registration. But the additional 1.5 months (besides the one year internations warranty) is for service only in Singapore.

Hi Beipio, Is it HSM motor that put tis Sigma my first choice.. smooth n fast AF which i feel compared with the Tamron 18-270. Sigma lens build is solid and heavy and the Tamron r so plastic. Just testing my luck at that time when getting this Sigma 18-250 and no one has reviews on this lens here.. too new i think. So far so gd, tis lens had done a vry gd job. Lovin it :)

Thks TsQ, QC? not sure bro.. maybe for Sigma is the paint peeling problem. I tried both lenses on TK foto during my purchased.. I tested the focusing speed target on the display showcase just outside TK shop and those tripods on the floor... i marked a few spot for my testing... some spot r in low light n some behind blocking object. I only face problem on Tamron lens tat had problem finding the spot i want... zoomin in out in out n gave me the wrong spot. Im using central AF point. :)

Wow, thanks! Paiseh that you have go to the trouble of asking sigma about that, thought it would be common knowledge, so did not go ask sigma about it myself... :sweat:

hmmm so it would be like spending 230 dollars for an extra 1.5 years warranty :think:

U r most welcome! :)

I'm not in the hurry to get a travel len yet.
Need to find some time to go hand-on Sigma & tamron myself.

So, my 17-55mm/f2.8 is now always on my 50D.;)

I'm now in Taipei and seen some sample pics taken with this lense and seems very sharp. I'll be trying out the lense and hopefully can get a good copy. Not confirm to buy yet but would try out actual copy to test results.:)

Taiwan nice! Go snap some Bin Lan La Mei pics back to show us. ;)

Haha, that will greatly depend on where u are. Unless u are at the outskirt outside Taipei, else will be mostly elders attending to the stall. U can find more like in TaiZhong, Kao Ksiong, etc. :)

This lens cost less then $800 if buy from US.. anyone got good shop to buy from there that has good service?? i asked, it will hv international warranty for 1 yr..

Anyway, I've tested both the Tamron 18-270 & Sigma 18-250. My choice go to Sigma because of:

1) Tamron is more noisy when AF;
2) The image in viewfinder will tend to shake a bit when focusing due to the VR, but u don't feel any using Sigma;
3) When extending the range to max, u can feel smooth movement in barrel from Sigma although is tight, but Tamron will jerk a bit when moving;
4) For optic and image quality, both are almost identical;
5) Tamron is selling at NT$21800 and Sigma NT$17300.

Try it yourself cos everyone's preference is different, and i've chose to buy Sigma.:)

seems so far most reviews are towards the favour of Sigma....

wow... NT 17300 is SGD763 only .. can buy 1 for me ah if u are coming back soon?
