im using tammy 17-50mm and 55-250mm...now im considering..if i shld foresake the f2.8 for this lens..hmm..but i love the 55-250 but seldom uses it due to the range and doubt i will use it at all unless its all in one lens...selling this 2 can get me this lens thou...

by e way, wats the dimension for the lens?

argghhh..think think think...

oh yah bro..sigma always got the prob with their build and body peeling off...do u foresee this issue on this new lens?

Oh izzit... so far so gd. Guess i shld handle it with more care from now on.

As for the dimension, u can chk the reviews on my first post. :)

Thanks bro..just a quick last question before i decide to get it..how accurate and fast is the AF in comparison with canon lens?

i tried tamron and frankly speaking..its realli slow and sometimes i got to try a few times to get the rite point i wanted...

The AF is pretty fast n accurate, for low light situation ... I used the 'Center AF' mode to solved the problem. Just point to the subject and it will focus fast... If still cant, just do MF lor. ;)

Nvr compare it with the Canon lenses i had... b'coz diff in specs. If were to compare, My Canon EFS 100mm F2.8 Macro is a vry gd lens.. but also had hard time focusing issue and it AF is noisy... as for the Sigma 18-250mm is quieter. I think both it speed are abt the same.

Go try out urself n do a comparison, dun take words from me. :)

Hi there,

Anyone thought of getting a Sigma 18-200mm DC OS instead? Price is almost $200 difference for that extra 50mm. I dun think is worth it. The lens should be the same quality, just the difference in range. Correct me if i'm wrong. Thank you.

Regards,
Jun

i did some research..i think i will need to go down and test this lens on the spot..but from the reviews and some pics..at 18mm..sigma seems to be quite lacking behind canon and tamron..
hmm both lens got its up and down:)

bro..do u mind to update the lens performance, the pros and cons as u uses it? thanks

By the way, i cant seem to find the pricing for tamron 18-270mm, roughly does anyone know how much it is selling?

@pikapig
I am trapped in the same situation as you.

I am so used to my Canon S5 IS which cover a range from 36mm-432mm from F2.7-F3.5.
Can this 18-250mm lense do BOKEH without zooming all the way to 250mm focus length? I know my S5 IS confirm cannot unless I zoom all the way. Best of all, OS is useful at low light where shutter speed is slow. :)

I am thinking of 17-50mm as I wanna get bokeh via F2.8 at a more convenience compared to prime lens.

bro i own a 17-50mm before and i just sold it...:)
not much comments abt this lens, but if u are looking at bokeh rite..a prime lens at f1.8 will come in better..somehow for me..i cant get very good focusing using tamron..maybe its jus me..but its slow and its inaccurate..i got to try afew n the f2.8 unlike canon f1.8, i cant get enough coverage on the bokeh...

meaning i get a center point af, but turn out..the ears too shallow...

like i say..it might be my lens or maybe im not too good w the lens...

Hi pikapig,

Pros: All in one from 18-250, OS HSM, smooth AF, solid, produce gd quality images.
Cons: 18mm soft at corner, weak at low light, Lens creep (if lens comes w/LOCK... means it will creep)

Both the Sigma n Tamron are equally gd... no matter which brand you choose, most important is the convenience it provide without the need of changing lens... but that convenience comes at the cost of optical performance. :)

Thanks for sharing! Got myself one today.. Last night I wasn't sure what lens to get.. But realizing what I really want and seeing the shots you posted, it became easy for me to decide. I'm still learning and exploring-- trying out different subjects, compositions, etc. I hope you can share (or PM me) some of the settings that you used especially in the zoo as I'm planning to go there and try out my new lens anytime soon. Thanks a bunch! :)

Hi bro kikiaw,

Able to post pics taken in evening? Eg, in streets, buildings, inside buildings, etc. I like to find out if at night at f6.3, if need to bump up the iso, is the pics acceptable.

As i'm going to Taipei in 2 week's time, i might get one there if it's really good even for night shoot. Thanks.:)
