Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports

For a near 3kg lens...Tripod with gimbal is a must...I don't think I can even use with monopod let alone handhold.

The China birdies setup as shared by d123, are those fluid head on their tripods?

Its an awesome lens. Throughout the range I believe it is sharper then the Tamron 150-600, as I have now shot with both on the same body. Also autofocus response is quicker and it definitely doesn't hunt as much. Yes. It is almost 1kg heavier than the Tamron, but I will take that over the 120-300 + TC, which is not only heavier but more than 1k more expensive, plus the cost of the TC, and you will be at 5.6 @ 600mm(vs 6.3 - not much diff in my opinion).

Fluid heads are gaining ground in chinese birding scene. In taiwan fluid heads is the defacto standard. I am using fluid heads too

I had a go at the Sigma S (Nikon) yesterday at a local shop. Man its heavy ! It crosses the weight boundary of the 'you *can* hand hold, and you *want* a monopod' Tamron150-600, to the region of 'you *need* a monopod, and you *want* a tripod'.

2.8kg bro. As heavy as my previous 15 year old 300/2.8 non VR. The weight is no joke. But checking with my favorite stores in China, they told me the S156 has not been moving well. Ready stock...

Took the purge and got this awesome lens:)

I used to owned the Tamron 150-600. I find the Sigma a tad sharper by not much. However, built wise sigma wins hands down and its weather sealed.

Were these handheld (wow!) /monopod/tripod ?

How's the OIS compared with the Tamron ?

I'm still holding out for the C version :P Have you tried putting a TC on it ? I read the Sigma 1.4x tc will fit on this.. Body AF is the question i guess

The first 2 are handheld. Last one on tripod.
OIS I find both are similar.

Have not tried TC yet.

How come holding out for C version?

Nice, looking forward to more shots ! Maybe you can convince me the sport is worth the size :P

Weight and budget. I let go of the tamron 150-600 coz of dust issues, but i do like the weight/quality. Anything heavier eats into my mobility (The nature walk is the priority, shooting is the bonus) but it could be an alternative to the 300/4 which is really compact for walking.

Alfie, tripod is highly recommended!

Some more birdie shots...
