Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports

Hi, get the Sports version if you can. From what I heard, at 600mm, the sports ver is sharper and contrasty.

Also, the sports ver features full weather sealing.

Checked with a few shops regarding pricing, Sport Version - S$2,488, Contemporary Version - S$1,488; all shops quoted the same price as the prices are currently controlled by Sigma.

Currently the Sport Version is out of stock, please let me know if anyone has spotted one (for canon mount).

By the way, do you think it is worth getting the Sport Version which is $1k more than the Contemporary Version? Should I wait or just get the Contemporary Version straight away? I worry that I might regret later on.

Yeah, the Sigma prices are quite controlled, the variation is not huge. Same for the new TCs.

There's basically 3 choices for those who want to get a good telezoom now..

Tamron 150-600 (Tamron156) ~ Been around for awhile, lots of reviews, and some on the clubsnap buy/sell for $10xx to $12xx (5 years warranty so u got a long way) no option for TC.

Sigma 150-600 Contemporary (sigma156c) - Very new, a few reviews out for Canon, no nikon mount yet. Looks to be about the same as the tamron156, except for a weather sealed _MOUNT_, which worries me since I had dust issues with the tamron156 which came in via the zoom mechanism

Sigma 150-600 Sports (sigma156s)- The best of the bunch in image quality, but its heavier by quite a bit. You need a monopod *at least*.

Whether its worth to get the sports version will greatly depend on your usage, style of shooting, budget, arm strength :P

Bro - I think one of the main considerations should be weight. The S version is substantially heavier than the C version and Tamron 150-600 so you'd have to consider the costs in getting a good tripod set-up (if you dont already have one), and the effort required in bringing it around which is then linked to how often you would bring out such a heavy lens.

Most reviews have previously mentioned that the difference in image quality between both S and C versions are in the off-centre regions such as the corners. You should get sharper corners in S than the C version. Whether this is worth $1k more - you'd have to decide.

I sold my Tamron 150-600 to get the Sigma Sports version! ... It depends on yourself why you need this lens ... For me, I have used the Tamron earlier for birding, sports (from far away), airshow ... and it serves me well..

Upgraded to the Sigma, the main difference I find is that at the longer reach, the contrast is better ... bokeh is smoother (if you know what I mean) ... and I am pleased with the IQ considering the additional $$ invested.. However the lens is much heavier (almost difficult to hand hold for long) ...

For me, it is a good upgrade and a lens to keep ...

If you want better IQ and don't mind the weight (using tripod/ monopod/ gimbal etc) .... then its a good option! ...

FYI, I got the last copy last month from a shop in Sim Lim ...

I think weather proof doesn't mean dust proof.
I have some lenses that are weather proof but has got dust inside.
weather proof mainly prevents water from sipping between the gap of lens and camera and they do so by using a rubber ring.

Thanks for all the advise. I think I will wait for the Sport version.

Has anyone tried the Sigma 1401 (1.4x TC)? How does it compare to Canon 1.4x III on the Sigma 156 in term of IQ and AF speed?

Hi just like to ask if any owners has experience the same dust issues that seems to be plaguing the tamron 150-600? From what I read on this forum and others, it seems to be quite bad for the tamron

Mine is ok. Maybe because I am ok with dust, having used old manual lenses in the past.

Hi, I think the price hover around 2.4~2.5k. Better call to check as they usually out of stock.

Cheers!

Very good price for local warranty set. Local grey set is selling at $2,878. Maybe it is due to shortage of stocks, hence they are confident to sell at high price.

I had normal dust issues (as with any zoom lens that sucks in and out air) that didn't affect images initially, but later i had larger strands of dust/hair/slivers in the middle/rear part of the lens. I could see it via the OVF and photos. The good thing is Tamron has 5 year warranty and they will clean it for you, the only problem was it took 2 weeks (send back to factory) to get it fixed

You think that's bad you should see the Hong Kong prices for the nikon 300mm pf (50% markup)

Anyone knows where I can get the sigma C for nikon mount?

Anyone knows where I can get the sigma C for nikon mount?

I've yet to see the sigma156c in stock for nikon mount yet. Usually the canon will come in 2-4 weeks before nikon

I used to own and shoot with the 150-500mm, weight is alright. Probably Contemporary would be a good bargain. The mount is just as good. Weather seal....do you really shoot in drastic weather? How many of you do?

The kind of protection everyone is talking about is Ingress Protection some international standard on the protection on dust, sand and water.

There are some sample images from internet btw 156S and 156C, after you see the sample I'm sure you will know which one to get.

I was asking around for some Canon stuff and Parasilk HV has a Nikon mount. Call and ask for Rajoo if anyine is keen.

Testing out my TC1401 with this lens at the JBP ;)

Great shots !

Yeah, the TC1401 works great on the Sigma 150-600 sports.. You have to be shooting charts to see the visible differences.

With the D7200, I can autofocus well on contrasty areas.
