woah..this thread is still alive? haha..anyway, got the sigma 10-20 in the end! no regrets! this lens has never left my camera since i bought it!

Is Sigma 12-24mm the only available len for Full Frame?
I am trying to maximise the len because I am currently using crop camera but chances are would be upgrading to a FF.

On a FF, anything under 24mm effective focal length is probably considered UWA. The popular Canon 17-40L is considered an ultrawide but is not so on a crop camera.

And to answer your question more directly, yes, the only UWA that can be considered UWA on a crop camera and used on a FF is the Sigma 12-24mm. If you're a Nikon user, the 14-24mm barely fits into that category on a crop camera.

To put it simply, yes.

By the way, lens refers to one lens, lenses refer to multiple lenses, len refers to nothing I know of. :bsmilie:

hahah thanks.
Pardon my grammar =p
Thanks for the inputs!
Anyway since discussion was already on going for these lens, might as well use this existing one rather starting another one.

Thanks again!

the sigma 12-24mm cannot take screw-in type of filter at the front of the lens right?

how then do u protect the front element from stains, scratches, etc?

You just have to be careful I guess. Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8 users will also face this. It's got a similar design:

I have just started my search for a uwa.
Am using a D80.

Naturally....

Tokina 12-24 / f4: Decent quality at good value
Sigma 10-20 / f4-5.6: Really wide angle but slower aperture, at good value too
Tokina 11-16 / f2.8: really fast aperture at good a value
Nikkor 12-24 / f4: ??? at a premium....

Any comment on Nikkor 12-24 / f4?Is the quality really that good and way superior to tokina and sigma lenses?
The Tokina 11-16 seems tempting....

Some questions:
1) Which is the newest lense? Tokina 11-16 i suppose?
2) What is the best price for the 4 lenses and where?
3) Thanks for the above!

[1] Currently for uwa lense, Tamron has a new 10-24mm, but no review so far. Tokina 11-16mm before Tamron.

[2]Try MS color in ang mo kio.

Most people who weigh between the Nikkor 12-24 f/4 and Tokina 12-24 f/4 just go for the Tokina, because for double the price of the Tokina, you're not going to get twice the performance level with the Nikkor.

The Tokina 11-16 is the newest, but why does it matter/why should it matter?

Hello all photography experts, I am deciding to get a wide angle lens for my travel to Europe from Feb09 to Jun09.

Between Tokina 11-16mm and Sigma 10-20mm, which one would you all recommend?

I am currently using a Canon 400D+kit lens by the way...

Thankiew...

I'd go with the Tokina 11-16 simply because of the constant f/2.8.

My choice goes to the Sigma 10-20mm. I like the quality it gives me, is relatively inexpensive in contrast to its rivals. I have no qualms about the build quality, although a lot of CSers have doubts about it. (paint peeling etc. Mine's 1+ year old and still ok though... Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe I'm speaking too soon.) IQ is fine too, although, once again, there have been several discussions on the perceived softness this lens give.

I do not see the merits of a constant f/2.8 since I shoot at f/8 - f/16 most of the time for landscape photography. But hey, it may turn out useful in the weirdest opportunity.

For me, guess I am one of those better to have it when you need it than to not have it shooters. But yea, to each his/her own.

Hi all,

Thanks! Read the reviews from kenrockwell.com for Tokina 11-16mm and the wesbite claims it is the best UWA lens so far.

I am actually looking for a 2nd hand one but it seems no one is selling in the buy/sell section... Haha.

Tokina 11-16. Got mine when i got my D300.
Distortion also easily correctable. And the built is good.

shot at 11mm.
