Sightings of the new NEX 7

Can't remember which photo magazine I've browsed at Page One where they compare the A65, 600D, 5100 and a couple of others I can't remember. Being an amatuer, I just look at the item where "Ease of Use" and also the overall highest percentage which is the Nikon. Also like the guide function and the swivel screen.

Just curious, will the Nex 7N operate in Auto mode if the PZD lens is used. Understand only the E mount will work in Auto mode. I don't shoot in P/A/S/M mode as I only used Auto or ADV Auto. Just need something with better quality than a PnS. Not bothered with IQ, ISO, etc just something simple for about $2k. Will still get the 5N when it's cheaper in BNS.

Frankly, I did play around with the Fuji X1-Pro at the recent CES in Vegas and really like. Should cost around US$1700 plus US$650 for each of the 3 lenses. Total should be around S$4600. This remind me of my early days with the Pentax 110 with 3 lens and still very small. Just aim, focus and shoot. So simple to use.
If 'Ease of Use' in Auto mode is the only consideration by which you decided that the D5100 is better than the A65, then I would think that it is very subjective. Any camera when set in Auto mode is essentially like an idiot-proof P&S camera and operate the same way.... just point and shoot. The D5100 is no better than the A65 or any other camera for that matter.
The Sony A- & NEX-cameras have many other unique features that are very useful to amateurs and P&S shooters eg. Multiframe Noise Reduction mode, Handheld Twilight mode, and the incomparable vertical and horizontal Sweep Panorama mode which no other camera currently available can match (not that there are many brand/model that has this feature anyway). Then there is the peaking function that helps in making manual focusing a breeze to carry out. No other cameras except for the Ricoh GXR Mount have this feature and I find Sony's implementation to be way better than Ricoh's. Surely all these should count in the 'Ease of Use' category.

Comparing this to the Fuji xpro-1, I decided that I will go for this one. Because of greater market for E-mount, compatibility with A-mount and available zoom lens.

Can someone recommend me where should I buy the body+kit once its out? Yes I want to be the first few to get it.

I also want to be the first few to get it ..... =p , best bet is to keep calling the shops to ask. Read the earlier threads, already mentioned some dates for release

Dont quite understand this line..

"Just need something with better quality than a PnS. Not bothered with IQ, ISO, etc just something simple"

u said better quality..but not bothered with IQ ISO. So what you meant by quality. Built of the camera? or what. Simple..nowadays most come with full auto. Simple enough.

By the way, I came across this photographer's blog and it has a lot of nice pics taken with his NEX-7

If you read some of his earlier articles, he also goes into why he chose the NEX-7. Enjoy!

Nice photos no doubt.. But sometimes im really confused by all this.. maybe someone can enlighten me.

Those photos..are usually being processed. So if thats the case..it no longer shows the actual/real picture coming out from the camera and lens already.. am i right to say so?

Its like.. I buy a Honda car..then change its engine to a Ferrari engine. Now i tell you..thats the performance of a Honda. Dont sounds right right?

Same for those Picture threads we have. Some or most picture posted have been processed...So how accurate it is to say that what you see is what taken by the equipment. Puzzled..

Processing in camera and processing manually... No diff rite ? Its like driving manual gear versus auto gear. Now got semi auto , etc. Its all about the experience and which one you are comfortable with.

The camera captures details, raw shooters adjust all the parameters , while jpeg shooters let the incamera engine do the work.

At the end of the day its about workflow and preference.

yea..both are being processed but 1 is within the camera another is manually. Within the camera..there is only so much everyone can do and its across the board (only this much and thats it). But by doing it manually 1 can do so much change to it. Such that the picture itself can become 1 of its kind already. Now i dontknow how accurate it is to say.. its capture by this equipment..thats the capability or ability of it. Hmm get my drift?

Btw..Dont get me wrong i got nothing against PP or what. But just find it alittle confused over this issue.

Simple eg could be 1 person who is really good in his PP work..shot a picture with his "Z" lens eg...Make it so beautiful and sharp and says yea this shot is done with a "Z" lens (true. nothing wrong of cos)

Now this poor fella is new or dosent own the lens..saw the pic..and was impressed. Buy it and only realise..what he/she takes is totally different..

I've compared my A33 against the HX9V, both shot in Auto + and Handheld Twilight and the A33 pictures always turn out much better especially in dark environment. I did consider the 5N with the 18200 lens before. Only complain, there's no builtin flash and was waiting for the N7 which I did try it at the CES. Like it alot but it's not cheap when compared to a DSLR. Hence, considering the 600D or 5100 for about the same price. Weight wise, the 600D and 5100 is still not too heavy even with the PZD lens.

Being a guy who looks at features first as mentioned by Tomcat, I am aware of it as my HX9V has them. Forgot to mention I also have the Fuji HS10 which also comes with Panorama feature and it's 30x zoom but it's still not a DSLR. Bought it as an interim camera before getting a DSLR to replace the A33. Will be in KL next week and will check the N7 price as Sony gives warranty for Singapore but not Canon and Nikon.

To be honest, if you ever took a bad shot, almost nothing can save you... even fantastic PP skills...

Basically it all boils down to how well you take the shot, how good your equipment is to capture it accurately and how well you post process it...

Things such as motion blur caused by slow shutter speed, often the culprit of using auto mode in low light, can't be fixed by PP... And you can only do so much to fix high ISO noise with out blending away fine details...

Its not cheap because it is so much smaller and lighter than a DSLR yet performs like 1 or even better. Having said that, If you are satisfy with the DSLRs you mention and dont mind the weight and size of it. By all means. Its cheaper too.

Dunno to be happy or not..

My friend got the wrong message and i got a Nex7 body-only arriving from Korea this sun (I wanted the one with black kit lens).

now you can buy the spectacular 24mm zeiss in black instead!

i'll be getting the NEX-7 when it arrives and possibly the X-pro1 at the end of the year

=) If you look into detail maybe Sony Nex-7 Is not as good as some others DSLR, but nothing is perfect right? It still wont change me for getting it =) beside that will be my first camera Cheer~

Lightroom 3 does a good job of removing noise. If you process your raw files with it I am sure you get clean images.

That's also because it's not a DSLR...
