Nice! Was contemplating getting a used 80-200 for the E-M5. How's the handling?

Thanks bro, have this lens for a few years on Nikon system, AF is slow but IQ is great, a little soft at f/2.8 but usable. Manual focus is very smooth, throw is short and the ring is well damped for accurate fine focusing. On E-M5, I use x5 to x7 magnification during MF, easily done for still subjects but not so for moving ones. There is no IS, but not an issue with E-M5 since there is IBIS (so not recommended for lumix m43 bodies). Lens is heavy, can't hang it over neck, have to be on tripod all the time supported by lens collar, walking with tripod and lens over shoulder limits your movement and can be stressful after a while. Tripod ballhead must also be powerful enough to hold the entire assembly, the last thing you want is to have everything crashed to the ground. I do not recommend using HLD-6 battery holder as the extra weight adds stress to lens mount, the hand grip part is fine though.

My preferred birding gear is still E-M5 + 75-300mm on a monopod, use this 80-200mm setup only when i really need that extra 200mm to get closer :)

lately, i've been trying to consolidate my photos onto a NAS and rediscovered some of my toy photo shoots. unfortunately i also realized that some of my favorites are missing/misplaced among my various portable drives, or are in an SD card i can no longer find. my only recourse now is to download them from photobucket and another forum i posted them on a couple of years ago, albeit, they're not full-res. still keeping my fingers crossed that i'll find the originals eventually.

now this is truly well beyond the range the 75/1.8 was intended for:

E-M5 + 75/1.8

had i known the lighting was going to be as bright as it was, i would've brought the 45-200 instead...

Sting!!! :)

Actually you had it at ISO640 from exif at F1.8. Should you use at f5.6, 200mm, you probably have to use at ISO 6400 or more. That might not give you a better details than your cropped image with 75? Just a thought, nice images nonetheless! Did you sneak in the gear or they were ok with photography?

thanks!
i actually overexposed that shot and had to use highlight recovery (first time using Lightroom btw, and it's great!), so imagine at correct exposure it could've been taken at ISO320 or perhaps lower.
i was anticipating a possible jump as the crescendo built up so i had already metered when the spotlights came on, blowing the highlights on Sting's forehead. but i was rewarded with not one but two people in the air =)

i've used the 45-200 @f5.6 in previous concerts and could manage some shots at ISO1600 when spotlights are on. given there were quite a number of sequences in the Sting concert that were very brightly lit, i imagine i could manage some sub-ISO1600 shots particularly if i underexpose slightly. but yeah, the sharpness of the 75 is without peer.

camera was in plain view when i opened my bag and they let me in. Sting sounded so good live, i actually forgot to shoot until about an hour in when he started singing something i didn't recognize. so i looked around and saw some guys with DSLRs and long lenses. i took that cue and started shooting.

don't ask me why there's a bear there..

normally, i refrain from shooting whenever the dreaded red light wash comes on. but this is Roxanne we're talking about...

hands down, best concert of the year. without any fanfare, the guy just walks on stage and started singing, and kept on singing for a full 2 hours, effortlessly getting the crowd to join him and jamming the living daylights with his band mates (the violinist was exceptional!). no costume changes, no fluff, just solid music. can't say the same about the J-Lo concert, which barely reached 90mins with intermissions galore.

one of my rock gods on the bucket list. check.
