Great shot for a tough target that is even so fast moving

Wow bro, another fantastic shot!

I use the EM5 + Lumix 100-300mm for the occasional birding, it can be really difficult! Would love to learn from you, any tips ;-)?

Thanks for the kind comments and the likes bro :) I have the 100-300mm as well, wife now used it on her GH2, but I think it's just as good on E-M5 only that mega OIS on the lens needs to be turned off when used on E-M5, and I would avoid shooting at f/5.6 @ 300mm. For this shot, ISO 1250, f/7.1, 1/250s. Some methods u may wish to try:

1. use monopod whenever possible.
2. focus on the eyes, AF is not accurate sometimes, switch to MF if possible, enlarge the subject in EVF helps.
3. @ 300mm, don't shoot below 1/200s
4. put iso to auto, E-M5 can handle hi ISO.

hope it helps :)

Thanks for the sharing, much appreciated! Will try these out ;-).

These little birds are very frisky and hardly stay still, to get a shot like yours, great technique! It probably also shows how far m4/3 has come with the E-M5.

Do shoot more and post more ;-)!

Oh yes, they are very frisky and shy, noisy group will frighten them away, shoot alone or 2 at the most :)... forgotten to mention that try to get as close to subject as possible, wearing something that blends with the environment helps, move quietly and i do have to stay quite still for long period sometimes :)

Oh won't risk connecting different systems directly, just a normal wireless trigger on E-M5 and a receiver on SB900, manual power control no TTL. If needed, I can add more receivers, for instance, to light up background and surrounding a bit with 2nd flash and 3rd flash :)

Seems like you are enjoying your new lens and I like your images captured by this lens. :)
How do you hold your flash and camera for this shot - both handheld?

Thanks bro, yes you are right flash is top left about 10 o'clock, i use a portable soft box, power set to 1/64 and camera on manual mode, f/11, iso200, 1/250s. :)

Haha yes bro, very nice lens, light and sharp, getting yours soon? thanks for the likes.

Yes, both handheld. Flash + softbox on left hand at about 10 o'clock, camera on right hand. This was an unexpected shot in the morning before sending kid to school, didn't have the luxury of using a monopod, which i usually do for macro. :)
