Joe you have proven that m4/3 can do sports with the appropriate lenses, congrats and great pics.

Thanks, man, having fun with these little high IQ cameras that one can easily bring everyday, each day may present something new in photo opportunities :)

hi, your Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 is the old C/Y mount, made in west germany?

Yes, old one made in Germany. Have the 50mm coming in as well, also old AE version, German optics. The Japanese versions are sharper, but I just like the old Zeiss look, reminds me of the Hasselblad lenses.

Fast legacy lenses perform very well on m4/3. They are more difficult to use wide open f/1.4 in full frame, even at 1.6x crop, where almost everything is milky bokeh. But with m4/3, it's easier to get a better balance.

Guys if you want to continue posting images here and discuss about them, please stick to the guidelines, if not I'll have to shut this thread down.

Thank you~

Some from E-PL1 with a Zeiss CY mount 135mm f/2.8, , all wide open at f/2.8. Nice backup lens when needing longer range above 85mm or 90mm. Probably near the maximum focal length I am still comfortable with handheld in dim light (with IBIS).

Daytime, ISO 200

Both outdoor sunlight and low light conditions, are the images still sharp?

Thank you very much

Nice shots Clubgrit, that's some nice handholding also, not easy even with IBIS. Did you use the EVF to help you focus or did you have to do some preset focus estimation for the shots?

Thanks, and with respect to my pictures with E-PL1 here, below are some more technical info, personal use of course and all manual focus, so YMMV.

I use the VF-2 EVF, which already has good magnification, so I rarely use Magnify feature. I can preset focus estimation, but most of the time I just focus as quickly as I can when the moment comes, although I try to anticipate it.

The VF-2 also allows me to hold the camera near my eye where I can support it with my face, as I have always done with my other cameras.

In addition, I added in a grip that secures both my hand and wrist, as well as a soft release button. Together with IBIS, and E-PL1 grip, these all add up for a more stable shot.

I am left-handed too, with most of the weight while shooting in my weaker right hand, so all these help.

I also shoot in continuous mode of at least 2-3 frames for difficult shots to make sure (or to capture a sequence). As I shoot RAW + Small Jpeg, this requires a faster card, at least Class 6, faster for next shots.

I also have LCD preview turned off, NR and NF turned off as well. I very rarely postview (I don't know why they call it preview) a shot while shooting, after all, it was not the camera making the focus but me. When in doubt, I just keep on shooting.

Thanks for sharing on the technique and setup you used, very helpful indeed :) E-PL1 is certainly tempting, just need to find a perfect fast 50 (focal length equivalent) now hehe, though I think very little options available : /

Night shot with E-PL1 + Zeiss CY mount 28mm f/2.8, Gorillapod copy
ISO 200, NR set to Auto, f/8
NR definitely has to be set to Auto for night shots
