Hi Vince, I shall listen to your styling advice, o master clotheshorse.... problem is I am quite a heavy user and a bit sayang and sakit hati...buy already and admire (which I hardly do) or buy and use (which of course no more collectors status)..... best thing is forget about it and back to MF. Honestly, I am not so much of a collector.

Sir Dan, then I suggest buy a used/mint special edition piece. Buy a piece that makes sense to you. Take me for an example, I bought the M6 Millennium (though it cost as much as a used MP) cos' I like some of the features that I wish are available on the MP and M6.

Ex.
Blackpaint Brass top vs. black chrome zinc top on regular M6
Red dot vs. none on the MP (I am a brand wh*re, what to do?!)
large speed dial vs. small on MP (which I find essential for Ms with built-in meter)
Old M3 style rewind knob vs. M6 style knob (I know some will urgue otherwise)

Only thing I wish my M6 Mill can be better will be to upgrade to MP VF, but still not a deal breaker. Will this make me a better shooter? Unlikely, but I know that I've got a piece of M that's better suited for me than the reguler production ones.

If I do buy the hammertone, MP3 or M6J next time, I intend to use it as much as possible and will not be afraid to brass it. The piece will be special to me cos' I've used it and in future, special to my daughter cos' it's been pass down by her father.

Hope that makes sense.

Dave, sure, it makes complete sense. For me, at least, buying any leica for that matter, is a tribute to its engineering/history/gestalt (call it what you may). Some people like pams and some like rolexes even seikos. To each his own.

I am of the opinion that, if in a pure photographic sense, its all about the glass than it is the bodies. Any cam, can take a "great" photo and its is the lens that makes a good part of that "great" photo. I actually like the fact that there is no red dot.

Perhaps, all I am saying is that, I am more a shooter at heart than a collector, the fact that I use leicas does not mean jack. Hence my waffling about purchasing anything for the sake of aesthetics. I buy I definitely will use. Nothing wrong with collecting though, I truly admire pure collectors. It just doesn't reconcile with my own personal philosophies.

As my mentor dorje always says "just you and the subject, nothing else matters, not exposure, not anything", I find that pure and true

Aiya, emotional decisions often dont make sense and nor am I making any, in this case. :bsmilie:

Dave put me out of my misery and you buy it la....

My thought actually, but I do think something about using a Leica M that just feels right in my hands. I am also not a collector, well maybe I do collect some lenses. I also admire the pure collectors. Wish I can have the luxury of setting things apart just to admire. Maybe someday... For now, I am content to use the what I can afford as much as possible.

Put you out of your misery bro? My emotional decision tells me I will be in misery, once wifey discovers a chrome body in my collection. :bsmilie: Wongsan, over to you... hehehe

My first, new-to-me RF.

The correct phrase is "spreading poison", not "sharing passion". :bsmilie:

oh right... I forgot today's sesame street moment : today's word brought to you by our main sponsors: gommy and hacker, is the letter "p".... "p" is for "plague", can you say "plague" kiddies?

Oh wrong... Sir Dan forgot again! : today's word from gommy it's "plaque"..."p" is for "plaque".
Please remember to brush & floss your teeth today, don't leave "plaque" on your teeth.

So kiddies, 2 new words today: "plague" from Hacker & "plaque" from gommy.

And please remember:
Candies are bad for you except Leica candies!

Poison is the Cure
Under the "Poison Act", prescriptive drugs are classified as Poison.
Under Hippocratic Oath, I've pledged not to do harm.
I'm "spreading" the cure & not disease.
You need a cure for your "bleeding nose", Sir?:bsmilie::bsmilie:
