say id want to find a few of these lenses, what do i look for??
Is there a list or a website that lists them, rare or not?
very nice
If you can find info on them on the web sites... then they are probably not rare enough.. :bsmilie:
Kidding.... Benny, Gommy, please shed some light!
It's a lot hardwork & also much luck. Yes, some of these are quite rare, like the Komura.
For instance, first encounter with Fujinon was in HongKong. Went into PhotoArsenal to look see, look see. Then this guy told me he has this lens to recommend-Fujinon 5cmf2.0. Wow, never heard b4 but after taking a test shot at f4, I was impressed! I then tested at f2.0, wow, it's really sharp but pleasantly sharp NOT like modern ASPH lenses. Price was within budget, so I bought.
Came back, search & search the net but very little info found for Fujinon. Learned than it was paired with Leotax camera. Search Leotax, turned up Topcor (also never heard). Just then Topcor-S50f1.5 appeared on evilBay. Bought it and a week later another one popped up-asked someone to buy but he sat on it. This second Topcor ended with no taker. In the meantime my Topcor arrived, wow very impressed again. Then second Topcor got re-listed, someone still not making a move so in the end, I bought the second one as well. Just a note, there is an earlier version of Topcor50f1.5 called Simlar50f1.5. However, this is a much poorer performer than Topcor-S 50f1.5. BTW, Topcor-S50f1.5 is a half Sonnar design & its image rendition is closest (almost identical) to the famous Sonnar clone, Canon50f1.5! See

Later found Type1 & 2 Topcor50mmf2 in Japan. I really like the look of the Type 2 (chrome & black, 'Panda' version). See post #59 in this thread
Komura story started with this lens, my all time favorite little cute lens:
When I first saw Komura from afar, I thot it must be a Canon lens but lo & behold, it's NOT! Komura, another unknown! It looks so much like my favorite little cute lens, so must buy it so the little lens now have a BIG brother.

Just learned that this is a very rare but excellent lens. It's probably a Ernostar (precursor of Sonnar) design.
BIG brother & little brother together:
cheers & good luck in your search! Actually goKevincameras in eBay have some of these lenses.
