Should photographers bring steps / ladders to events?

should photographers be standing on steps / ladders?

Results are only viewable after voting.

We, as a community should put pressure on them. If everytime they stand on ladder and block others, we shoot and post them on the net.

Sooner or later, we MIGHT win. ;p

Well try as we may to pressure but in the end they will only exclaim 'It's our right S'pore
is a free country'. The only thing is blame the guy who thought of this innovative way to use the 'ladder' for taking pictures.....so thus The Ladder Gang was born.:bsmilie:

How about starting a thread in KPT, and naming it as "Events - Inconsiderate Ladder Gang Gallery"? (Suggestion for a better title?)

Then members can list out a series of upcoming events. If any inconsiderate behaviors is sighted at the events, it can be uploaded onto that thread for C&C or discussion.

For example, one event would be the MSW Finals preview.

Lets find out whether it would be a deterrence to inconsiderate ladder usage at those events that have been suggested for laddie watching.

Let's also focus on inconsiderate usage only. Some PGs might want to use the ladder to get a better view or angle, and that is fair, provided that they leave some room for pple w/o ladders to stand in front and not hog the place or block everyone behind, by standing a little further away.

It would be interesting to know the results.. ;)

yaya. i might be there, thou wont be on ladder.;p

I feel the main problem with usage of ladders is that a perceivable large majority of them do not realise that the audience has equal rights to watch the event without being blocked or hindered too. Have some good sense, and stand at the side, where you may not block the rest of the audience.

Owning a camera doesn't give one the right to place oneself above fellow members of the audience. In fact, if you aren't the official photographer, or media, kindly please step aside to the periphery and let the audience have the best view possible.

From looking at the level these shots were taken, it looks like you are one of the ladder gang but perhaps you are one of those better ones? You are not standing right at the front row. Or, are you 1.93m tall? ;p

I've still not joined the ladder gang yet... used raising the hand and shoot method to get the shots... ;)

Using raise hand and shoot is no better/worse than using ladder.

moi no photog. moi transformed into a paparazzi-wannabe in this situation. Paparazzi transformed & roll out!

moi cant hold long for sure. imagine carrying a m16 and shoot, and somemore must be "zhun zhun" on target.

That is you. Many people can hold for very long.

erm... how come raise hand to take photo is worst? can't think that a camera and two hands area is larger than a body?

I said it is no better/worse; and that is my view only.

1. The hands (and arms) is thinner than a torso (smaller surface area too). If audiences has the view partially blocked by hand, they can shift their body slightly to one side and still catch the action.
If the view is blocked by a torso, they probably have to "move" further and stand somewhere else.

2. Hands do get tired. When the hand are retracted to rest, the audience behind can have unlocked view.
It is unlikely that someone on the ladder will step down even when their camera are down. higher efficiency at blocking other people's views

3. Most audience in general(subjective) are less annoyed if blocked by hand, and more annoyed if blocked by torso/backside.

4. A ladder most likely take up more floor space than a person standing with hands up. this translates to less standing space for other audiences.

Using raise hand and shoot is no better/worse than using ladder.

My opinion is.. if one wants to use a ladder, by all means. But please be considerate and stand further back and leave ample space for pple to stand in front. Don't hog the front rows and block everyone else.

No one will bother with a PG on a ladder, however high, if they are standing at the last rows at the back right?

wat's wrong with these 2 guys ?
are they doing something wrong ???

Think you might have the same mentality as them.. Thinking what they did is nothign wrong.
