Should i get the E-3 now?

The great thing about the E3 is that it gives me confidence...a lot of confidence. I dun feel like I have to take care of my camera or worry about the well-being of my camera when I am out shooting in inclement weather. With a coat or raincoat on, my camera can hang outside and I can focus on my shooting. The only thing I take care of is to use my hood and point the lens down so that my filter does not get water droplets on it which can then affect image quality.

I totally agree with the above. I was using my E-1 in Taiwan shooting lion dances in the rain with "no fear", whereas the other photographers were spending half the time trying to protect their gear. I was able to move myself to the front to get some interesting shoots whereas the rest were way back under the shelter.

But seriously, for the E-420 to get wet, better dry it and let it sit in the dry box for a week or more, with all doors opened with the lens mount cap taken off... for total drying...

if you have the finances, get the E3. If not, get the E1, used, at a very good price.
You can also get E3 for a good price at Cameta, ebay. Sometimes it goes for US$1,000. Can't get any better deal than that, it's used of course, but in mint condition.

However, i like something that is weather sealed so i can take pictures in snow or rain...

Should i get it now or should i wait for the upcoming oly dslr? Also, where is a good place to get it?

Well, don't forget it's not just the body, but also the lenses as well. Without weather sealed lenses water can get into the lens shorting it out, and taking the camera with it.

eh, I saw ur cam without the hotshoe cover?
isnt it advisable to have one? to prevent short circuit or somthng like dat? :dunno:

I think leaving the hotshoe cover on can cause more damage as moisture can become trapped under it and corrode the shoe...it's not like a rubberized weather sealed cover was provided.

True, but after rain the camera should be cleaned, even the hot shoe cover and under the cover as well.

Good luck! I am sure you will be happy with the camera unless...

I'd not buy my camera from the US for several reasons. One is the warranty. Even if it is global one year, you may have troubles locally. Anyway, if you buy in the US, buy it day one of a longer visit, test it well before bringing it back home. Just in case...

Definitely. But remember that your E-420 is not weather sealed.

Yes, they are weather sealed. As of the question: Which lenses..., thats easy. Get the 12-60, 50, the 50-200 and the EC-14. Sell the 70-300 because you will never use it once you have the new lenses.

It has been soaked in the rain at least twice for prolonged periods of time and at least once it was like monsoon-type of deluge. I never had a problem with the hotshoe shorting or anything like that. The E3 has been virtually bullet-proof. Think about it, the hot shoe cover isn't REALLY going to do much in protecting the hotshoe from coming into contact with water. BTW, I also dun bother to have a VF cup if u can see. Of course, dun be an idiot and leave the battery or memory card compartment cover or the USB jack cover open when exposed to snow or rain.

In any case, I think my previous C5050 and E510 had been exposed to some light snow and light drizzle and it has not been a problem. But I would not subject these 2 same cameras to a heavy rain and allow THAT much water to fall on the camera like what I have done with the E3. like what they always say......"your camera is solid weather-proof....but the one holding it is not...."

wudn't we be stopping the rain in motion when we flash?
or we can use simple methods to weather proof it also, just a simple wrap..
easier and better than wrappin the camera body+lens

If I'm not wrong, the built in flash on the E3 is weather sealed. No problem to use it under the rain.
