It appears that Alanphoto's $1799 promotion (if in SGD) is really an awesome deal~!
What appeared on Amazon pricing was US$1,459.95. With the current exchange rate, it is still (WAYYYYYYYYYYY) cheaper to buy that local promotion.
The value buys of Olympus equipment from US is only for selective items. E.g, 14-54mm and EX-25 for now. The currency exchange rate really makes a lot of difference. Plus, if you are shipping the items back, you're still liable to the shipping cost and the 7% GST (for SG). Do your maths well before you decide to buy from overseas, unless you are making a trip there personally (you'll probably save on shipping cost and the GST).
Falling against the Yen that is, it has Americans on on DPReview worried about prices on equipment once current stocks run out.
Of course it all depends on how your countries own dollar is doing against both of those. In Canada our dollar was higher than the US a few months ago, and I'm kicking myself now for not making some purchases because our dollar is back in the toilet again.
