Depending on your needs. Most people would upgrade the lens first from their kit lens. Body wise, some will upgrade as a newer model comes along while others will hold on and see if there's any significant upgrades in the newer body before changing body.

most upgrades are on lens and regarding body, upgrades are to full frame and some features....

Given the choice between the two, I will go for A330 as is more value for $ over the the eos1000d ( Fast Live View AF, Tiltable LCD ). but a a330 with a heavy lens might not be too comfortable to hold as the grip is small and there is no vertical grip available.

Between the 2 I will chose Sony A330 then canon 1000D . I did a research b4 too . And I find A330 more worth it esp after the price drop from 1099 to 899 :)

Don't need to worry that Sony is a new brand to SLR world , as they actually bought the entire Minota over .

Lenses wise , I start to see more and more sony 2nd hand lenses avaliable in BnS . So it's a good thing too :)

However if you put KX in I will still go for Pentax Kx :)

No regret so far with my KX

thanks thanks to all
when i hold the sony i fell abit funny but then canon 1000d quite oki
when i decided i will try to hold this 2 model again thanks

Both are decent camera, personally I think A330 is too catered for beginner (from PnS) as such changing of focusing point need to go thru several menu (do correct me if I am wrong).

Given a choice I would consider A550 & 550D instead.:)

Choosing a camera, you must also see the overall system:

- Lenses / Flash: quality, availability, range (focal length) and price

- Accessories: vertical grip, remote, UW casing, etc...

Because, after you decided the camera that you want, subsequently you'll get some lenses, flash and other accessories.
Afterwards, you are 'married' with that system... cannot jump to another system unless you're willing to lose a lot of $$$

Good luck!

Sony a330 definitely better than canon 1000d

Not to mention build in IS is gonna save u alot of money.

U might wanna consider the sony a300 and a350 instead. Its actually a better cam than the a330 and a380. Much better handling too.

Lotsa people selling it pretty cheap in BnS forum here.

just now i go try the sony and canon again
the grip for canon is better then sony that for my case
so maybe i will get 1000d instead of sony man
thanks for all the advise

can consider 450d also but higher budget, canon have privalleage purchase if u trade in any old canon cams,21% off RP

450D going to phrase out already, unless u buy 2nd hand. Now you see all the canon ads only have 1000D,500D,50D,7D,5DII.

Sony a330 has probably the worse grip in its lineup.

the grip quite small
that why abit funny

According to some websites, the cam is meant to be used with liveview 100% of the time, hence the grip is designed this way. :dunno:

oic now i also confused i think of nikon too hahahahahah

Well, the a330 is better than the 1000D, but you really should get the Pentax K-x instead. About the same price or cheaper, and can do video recording unlike the other two. Not to mention the best high ISO performance of any APS-C DSLR. Get it with the twin lens kit for $900 for a really great deal.

I own A330 and I have big hands. At first, I didn't quite like it... but the feel gets better and better. You should try holding it with the camera lens resting on your left hand, then let the body rest on your right hand. It will feel much more comfortable. I will not say there is a huge difference between A330's and 1000D's grips because both are equally small. You want a really firm grip? Go for the semi pro cameras like A700 or 50D. Even the D90/D80's grip isn't a lot more comfortable as compared to these lower end entry level cameras, (in my opinion).
