Thanks for the link. And I'm surprised to learn that you and Kirk were colleagues :O

Haha, that was a long time ago! You can see that Charlie has a great eye and is very clever about what he wants to portray in his SP!

I hear Kirk is into large format now. When are you joining in? :p

I've always been searching for my answer to my question but to no avail, hope someone here could help, what flash does Bruce gilden use? Like what is his set up? What cable does he use to connect it to the camera? Thanks guys! :)

Seems like a lot of people go for vivitar or Nikon, which do you suppose is the best of the lot for a Leica m from those two? And what would be a good extension cord for the flash from the hotshoe?

Thanks for the replies so far and those to come! :)

amritsg: you want something which you can run away quickly
and doesn't tangle in your face. i prefer the metz 45, as i
can use this potato masher to protect myself....

Previously I used an x100 with yongnuo YN560 and RF603 radio trigger, worked very well thanks to AF. However the YN trigger doesn't work with my M8 so I got some no brand china ones that works.

It's quite hard to focus and handhold the flash off camera when shooting at larger apertures, a lot of hand swapping. Sometimes indoors I use the flash on camera but bounced, a lot more convenient than holding but the look is more boring.

the purpose of using the flash for street shooting is to shoot at narrow aperture,
to create an enormous dof so that you do not have to focus each shot.

if you watch the b.g video, he explain that the new york streets is bright and dark
due to the building shadows, so he decides to eliminate focusing and guessing exposure
by using a flash.

To begin with, you can try using flash in a crowded area. In a way it gives u a larger variety of subjects and lesser chance of confrontation. Singaporeans tend to stare but they are not too likely to confront you.

I use a x100 with the YN 560. Good and cheap flash! :)

i shoot m6 with nikon SB 900 and yongnuo ctr-301p radio trigger and have good result.
i tried shoot flash at little india and they are quite ok and face no confrontation yet.

Little India typically quite easy to shoot. The wonderful people there are very tolerant. If you're trying other areas you may want to be more discerning :)

How bout with the digital Ms? Is there any limitations with all the flashes discussed? Like the vivitar 285?
