Conclusion: Canon cameras are better for earthquakes (IS maybe better?) and radioactively polluted areas; whereas Nikon is better for underwater shooting in flooded areas.
Alternatively: get yourself a sticker "Made in Japan" and put it on any China made stuffs - according your logic it should prevent any breakdown.

So? Whats that got to do with anything... Many of the Olympus camera and lenses are made in China, don't see issue in that too. Many of Canon's lenses are made in Malaysia, Taiwan and the such, no issue too.

And like it or not, in future or even in the present, most manufacturing had shifted out of Japan and flowed into China, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia, labour cost, production cost, etc etc, are too high in Japan.

Hahahaha... I did that for awhile, find it too much of a hassle, and gave up. But recently I am using the OMD with manual lenses... and I am starting to like that alot... so it all depend on whether you want to go full auto or full manual... either way, as long as you are happy and you enjoy the process, then it is good enugh.

A bit wasteful. But when u are lazy, choose "P" mode and "auto AF" mode to get better picture.
Anyway, it's owner choice.
I always see it funny, but only laugh inside.

I'll say picture excellently shot if it makes me flip back the album to admire it again and again regardless it was shot with Auto or manual or whatever mode.
It's a waste if it was "expertly equipped and setup" when I just peruse through not even blinking for a second more than necessary at the photo.

Regardless, if you're able to relate to or feel attached to a photo, it's not wasted. That's something to be treasured.

lol..This thread still going strong..with regards to answering the topic question it have already been answered so many times and even drift to some other topics.. all in all..

People who knows better look at images. Not what lenses..model of camera..or brand. Of cos..not the settings as well. People ask and forgot..but beautiful images they will remember longer.

Personally some people/friend i know always say shoot in auto..etc etc = wasted..Must shoot in M. But seriously..after looking at the images..they are worst off the pic/people shooting in auto. So...tell me about wasted. Who is wasting time and money..

Dont be afraid or be bothered by people asking or saying why you use auto. (If you are afraid..u have a problem..)
Of cos the best is to know and be able to use all modes..end of the day..its really your choice. : )

I hate to admit it but the first time I ever shot in reduced light, I used the no flash auto mode and propped the DSLR on a chair. stunning results and after that I sort of duplicated the setting in future shots

Nothing to be ashamed about. What's important is you get the shot you want and you're happy with it. Doesn't matter if it's Auto, M, A, S, P, or K, Q, W, FUUUU or whatever alphabet they add in the dial.

When I first tried photography was using my friend's 550D, kinda amazed by what effects it could achieve, especially with the bokeh! Then my friend coached me in using a DSLR, mostly in manual mode. Then I bought myself a 50D and learned all the other modes. Found that I liked aperture priority and shutter priority useful, especially for street shooting. I think that there is nothing to be ashamed about auto mode, used it on several occasions when I was lazy
