Shooting DSLR in Auto Mode = wasted ?

to all Newbies: Using Auto Mode is fine. and just a reminder, it's not the camera at fault when your shots turn out bad, and it definitely isn't your glory when the pictures are good.
don't rely on Auto all the time, and you should be moving on to other exposure modes after a while of shooting.

and to experienced shooters: using Auto is fine. just don't let it make you complacent and forget your basics.

that is why I always say you need to familiar with your tools, always ready.

once you are so familiar with your camera, everything will became automatic.

before I pack my camera into my bag, I always check the camera setting first, check camera battery level, check CF cards, is all my flash batteris fully chearge etc.

Are you serious? i mean... serious about asking this question not the getting D7000 and use auto.
For all you need to know..you can just get a D4 pair it with the most expensive lens and shoot with auto. Absolutely nothing wrong too. Really dont have to bother with sour people or etc etc.

(But...if the picture dont come out what you've expected or want.. you have no/less reason to complaint. lol)

FYI. NO.

there are scenes that we can't discern the mode used just by looking at the image. but once we see the EXIF, we know.

e.g. for a night shot, it's easy to tell. most cameras (if you're a newbie who has no idea how a camera works), will tend to try to expose the scene properly on Auto mode. which, in turn, the ISO is kept to a limit, and Shutter Speed usually is pretty slow. a newbie will have a handshake-blurred shot. a seasoned shooter will anticipate this and most likely have a more handshake-blur free shot.

I would love to stick ard here all day long, but I got to earn my daily rice bowl, dude.

If I'm Hong Kee with $50 million to play around, I don't mind replying to every single thread here all day long. But in reality, I can't afford to do that.

Agree. A company as big as Nikon won't let whoevers manufacture stuff for them if the QC department is not up to a given standard. Reputation (and monetary loss) is at stake here.

Newbies using auto mode is ok provided they look at the EXIF and learn to adjust the setting themselves later on.

For me, not being a newbie now, I really don't like the green logo on my D90! lol

Don't worry bro. I uses Auto lots of time too... it is hassle free and pretty accurate. No problem at all

Conclusion: Canon cameras are better for earthquakes (IS maybe better?) and radioactively polluted areas; whereas Nikon is better for underwater shooting in flooded areas.
Alternatively: get yourself a sticker "Made in Japan" and put it on any China made stuffs - according your logic it should prevent any breakdown.

Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Fuji, etc heck care, bring it on, for me I'm impartial. Just like I heck care what car I drive (if I can afford one), as long as I've learned to drive well, it doesnt matter
