Shitty experience at Konota yesterday

i just finished processing a couple of slides over at RGB.....1st time there and service is good......1/2 day finished the job and charged me at $4.95/- per roll. but the scanning to cd service is too x-pansive for me. at about $12/- per roll...but the lady mention that it can print up to 6R size photos. I did not go for it. those cheaper rate over at other labs......can it be printed out in at least 3R size........in good quality?

Seems like at Konota, you have to deal with The Boss. Wonder if they have a secret code too. :bsmilie:

Anyway, my regular lab does wonderful work for me too. The bosses wife is the ONLY person you'll ever deal with, and she very very meticulous. She'll even go as far as to reprint if she's not satisfied. Anybody who would like to try can PM me lah. I'm not going to advertise in this thread.

my 1st bad experience...when to burn some neg into CD and print some 8R shots. the lady couldnt find my negs and pictures. after about 15mins she finally found them and printed wrong picture to 8R

2nd bad experience...as many of you ask for express 1 hr service and the infamous 15min later happened 4 times. finally got the pics after 2 hours but charged for express 1 hour service.

3rd one...sent some pics to print matt with border and got gloss with border. wait fro the reprints.

4th one...sent some digital prints to be done. mostly cat pictures. most of the pictures shows much details of the cats fur but when got back prints, the whole patch was white without any detail at all. came back to check my soft copy again and confirmed that i didnt blow out the highlights.

many yellow skin people also.

i sent them there cos thought they are more 'pro'. in the end the skin tones were worst than the kodak lab that i go to near my place which developed at $0.35 only. really regret ah.

enough of konota. will sent the same unsatisfied batch to develop at KT see how is it.

Hi Ruthbaby, exactly which one in Jurong? I live near there and so is more convenient than travel down to Konata.

Thanks.

Hi,
I find it amazing that so many people have complaints about Konota, especially when many people also recommended them and their good printing quality.

I always sent my slides to Ruby. I know they don't process it themselves but so far, I am very statisfied with the results and service. :)

But may try out Beautiful Moments soon...

Cheers,
-Michelle- :D

I too have been sending in my slides to Ruby over the past 5+ yrs and they can either send it to Spectra or Fuji (AMK). Spectra has been very consistent and professional so far.

reachme2003 and others i understand how you feel, i think plenty of people out there have your same feeling. i went there 3 year ago, when i first come to singapore, come out result GOOD, as i didn't expect anything, maybe their mood is good.

went there for 2nd time, bad experience, 1 day service, went on the 2nd day around 6 pm, thing not turning up, just 4 pcs 10RW, and dam expensice, keep telling 15min to came back, but only done an hour later, and turn up colour TERRIBLE, i ask them to reprint, 15 min later turn up ok. going back to try again half a year later, print ok, but "fed up" with their service. "it make me feel like "you want come then you come and you want go you go" "BOCHAP" kind of feeling, after that not going back since then, how can i go to a shop the think i am bordering them???

Why not we come up a rating of the popular colour lab, for the benefit of the club member as a reference, i suggest this because, who are in this club, is mostly a regular lab visitor which prefer a good service and value of money. those point and shoot one will not concern so much right, those point and shoot one doesn't concern so much right?

The color balance was ok but i find the print look dirty. It's like these is dirt/fingerprint or something. Maybe they pack immediately b4 they are dry. I have avoided them for another lab since then. Anyway, plenty of lab out there do better then them. So no big deal. Can't find a reason why ppl call them pro.

I tend to agree with most people's observation.

I am a regular at Konota and their colour negative prints are excellent. The 8R enlargements are especially good as long as you don't crop or do any burning/dodging etc. I must admit usually prints made by Mr. Kwek is much better as he's more experience and he adjusts the exposure and colour well.

I am also sometimes frustrated by their services as regards to the waiting but i think there's always a quick way to get around it by calling them to ask if your print is ready.

For Beautiful memories, i am one of the earliest adoptors and know the owners well. They are very friendly, accomodating and the service is quick (more than 10 mins though, abt 20-25mins for 1 roll). The only thing i don;t like is that the printing is done on a semi-glossy paper (lustre) and thus doesn't look as sharp as the pic shd be.

For RGB, too exp and not worth the effort to travel there. However, for large enlargement ie 12x16 or bigger, few places does a better job.

Fotohub - professional service - i sent my digital pic there.

I believe they are not bad but since the business flowing in like water, service drop, standard drop. It's like some hawker food that use to serve nice food that attracted many people and even more people saw the Q and follow to try (they can even tell whether they are good).

Then standard/service drop and the food became normal. The 'invisible hand' will soon come to work and hopefully some business will be taken away by other shop and hopefully they up their standard again. So regular supporter will be happy.

as far as i can tell, Konota's business is still going very strong. so i guess they dun really mind losing a few customers along the way.
if u dun like the service, just dun go. or tell Mr Quek personally...why complain over the net?

i have been using Konota for 2-3 years and their work has been nothing short of excellent...imo.

live and let live.

  Good comment there!

I'm another person who have no problem with Konota's services at all. Probably it's because I'm never in real need of rushing my photos anyway! :D

I got no problem with them as well, only priases and no complaints. Since I usually edit my digital print first befor I sent for printing and ask them to do only density adjustment, hence I can't comment on its quality. For those who think that you can just shoot and print direct from a digi cam, think again. There are thousands of digi cam out there, all profiles are different, even exposure can differ greatly when you view at home and when process by the Fuji software.

Chill out and take live easy... Any lab can screw up your print.

Complain over the net. I do not think that I owe Mr Quek an obligation to tell him. After all, look at the number of their dissatisfied customers among the local photography community. So, I am in favour of hitting them where it hurts. If they do not realise the power of consumers, too bad.

In Jurong the favourite place will be i-Photo @Taman Jurong SC.. next to the Mosque.:D

To me ALL the Frontier are good.. basically all U have to do is to tell the printer what U want and Your need in the printing.. Show them some sample if U need to.. Why must travel so far for some and yet you are not happy wth the services...:D

It just my POV..

I use to travel all around the Island to look for good printer.. but end up now I print at my neighbourhood Frontier @ Yew tee and still what I want..:D

Thanks KVP11, but that place is a little inconvenient, i'll probably try out ruthbaby's suggestion in Jurong Point first.
