Sharing your formula on developer and B&W films

Film is Nova B&W, ISO 125. Repackaged in India, cost is 28 rupees (says on the box).
I think it is a Ilford Delta 100.

Developed in Rodinal in 1+100 dilution, for 30 mins at room temperature water (28-31C)
Agitate 1 minute slowly and also at the 15mins mark.

Camera is M4-P with Sonnar CZJ shot at f4, 1/125, at iso 100.

knight84,

generally low concentration isn't used for pushing or pulling.

but time would be a good variable.

also, i find that 1 hour at room temp is too long for stand development. better to use 30 - 40 mins max.

i do not generally use stand unless the film-developer combination is stable.

for example, XP-2 and Rodinal is a stable combination for me, always work consistently.

the reason is that very often one side of the film will be more developed than the other side
giving inconsistent development. eg. bottom half of the tank versus top of the tank.

see following example, this is plus-x with rodinal, which in my opinion, isn't as consistent as with xp2.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion!

regarding agitation, I have a noob question.

I saw a recipe for lucky SHD 100 souped in Rodinal (1+60), it's 16 mins semi stand dev (5 secs agitation every 5 mins)

I saw another recipe for fomapan 100 souped in caffenol, it's 15 mins normal dev (10 secs agitation every 1 min)

both dev time is almost same: 15 mins vs 16 mins, and both are ASA 100 film. How do we know whether we should agitate every 1 min, or every 5 mins?

hi, i not expert but i suspect that it is film specific.

generally, but not always: increased development = increase in contrast.
Agitation helps in the process faster and it makes film development more even.

For example, most development method says every min agitate 3 times. But there
are other examples where every 30 sec agitate 2 times. The important thing is
to be consistent with the method.

I use 1 min and agitate 4 or 5 times every min, as i use room temp, hence time is shorter, hence more agitation.

as for your 2 formula, the 2nd one sounds very leh-cheh, every minute agitation for up to 15 mins...

if i want to use 2 different film of 2 different speed or even an unknown film like
the nova film example poste previously, i would try developing it in Rodinal at 1+100
and leaving it to stand for 30 mins at room temp (or 1 hour at 20C). I would perhaps
agitate it slowly at regular intervals, eg. every 5mins or 15 mins. The reason is to avoid the
streaky development shown in the last picture.

hope i didn't confuse u too much :)

Oceanpriest,

i like your images very much. can i ask you to bring some for me when we meet to collect film ? i have coffee strainer.
what i will do is develop the film by my method and let's see how it goes....
