Hi cukedemon,

Very good attempt in capturing this shade lover !!

It is always a challenge to capture this species with sufficient light , you did very well !

To be critical perhaps you could consider opening up your aperture , this will firstly give a brighter background if you are using second curtain fill flash. Secondly it will boost up your shuttle speed and perhaps eliminate the slight handshake blur discernible on the two shots!

Thanks for sharing your pic with us!!

Cheers!

Thanks bro..I must admit the apparent inexperience handshake blur, still got lots to learn, will keep in mind your advice next time..

Just realised it is not easy to ID these Skippers. They looked so alike.

sharing a mating pair of Small Brand Swift. A junior expert in Butterfly circle pointed it out to me.

Lovely pairs and beautiful shots.

For the Lime butterfly, it can actually "do it" without any support

Did it stay long in this position?

Hi David, Both Lime Butterflies and Common Mormon Butterflies are rather flexible. If there's something, they will hold on to it, otherwise, one of them hold will do.:bsmilie:
The session will last about an hour and a half or two depending whether there's privacy or not..:bsmilie:

Yeah, David, Cher Hern is right. They can even do it while flying too. But I have not seen before how they finish up before

Sharing some observations on the intimate moment of butterflies :

Some of the species has elaborate routine before they are engaged, like the Common Mormon the male will flutter around and ahead of the female releasing pheromones to arouse the female. While some species like the Leopard Lacewing and Tawny coster do not have such elaborate routine. In the Leopard Lacewing the male will perch at vantage point and once a female is spotted it will take off in pursuit and engage the female in mid-air without much fanfare. :)

During the engagement and when there is a need to flee due to treat , only one of the the engaged partners will flutter its wings to fly, whilst the other will just fold its wings and goes for a ride. Generally it is the female , the bigger of the two that does the flying. The mating pairs posted by CK and Cher Hern show this .

The male has a pair of claspers near it genitalia ,they held tight to the the female rear abdomen once it has successfully engaged. The engagement can last for minutes and up to hours .

Cheers!

Nice shot.

Thanks Cher Hern, CK and Sunny for the information on butterfly mating. :)

Hope to spot some mating pairs soon in next outing.

Looks like it's season for many species to prepare for the future...:bsmilie:
