This species The Gray Tinsel (Catapaecilma major emas) was recorded in the early checklist of researchers in Singapore. It was never sighted in recent memory and thought to have became extinct, until on 2nd Oct 2004 when one was encountered at Pulau Ubin and Chung Phang of ButterflyCircle managed a blur shot. It was them identified as a Catapacilma species and keep in the UFO archives.

On 29th May 2010 the Butterfly Fairy smiled on Nelson when he was out shooting on Singapore main island , this specimen literally landed beside him and he and another ButterflyCircle member CKChng managed some better shots than what was recorded in 2004.

After scrutinizing the latest shots and detailed research done on the species , ButterflyCircle is able this time , to drill it down to sub species level, it has been confirmed as The Gray Tinsel (Catapaecilma major emas) , species #295 for the Singapore checklist.

Thanks guys for all the kind comments. :)

It is through the help of Butterfly Circle's elaborative information about butterfly's behavior, life cycle and feeding habits that equip us with the relevant field knowledge
to capture these beautiful flying jewels on cam to share with everyone.

Fellow BCF members have also contributed by being very helpful and they are always there to assist and point you in the right direction.
